Chapter 12

Violet's POV

When I woke up, the room was dark. Looking at the small blue hands of the clock on the far side of the wall, it read 9:30. I felt around the bed to see if Colton was still here, a blush forming on my cheeks when I remembered the position we were in. He must have left the room a while ago, as there was no other patches of warmth other than my own. I rubbed my eyes and hopped out of my bed. I walked into the ensuite, only to be met with a terrible reflection of myself.

My eyes were bloodshot from crying, and my hair resembled a bird's nest from tossing and turning in my sleep. Winter's dress was crinkled and crumpled on me from rolling around in the bed. I had a dried up trail of spit coming out of my mouth. Deciding that it would do me good, I walked back outside to grab some clothes for a shower and found all my boxes out in the room. Surprised that I had missed them when I walked into the ensuite, I opened them up until I found one that had my clothes in it. I quickly found a pair of blue harem pants and a white shirt with beads adorning the front and neckline of it. Grabbing a red set of underwear, I walked back to the ensuite, desperately in need of a shower.

The water was warm and I stood under it for a few minutes, loosening the knots and kinks in my back before starting to lather my hair with shampoo and conditioner. When I had finally finished my shower, I spent some time drying my hair. I walked out and looking at the clock which now read 10:00, I decided to start packing away my things. Starting with the boxes that I had already opened when I was looking for my clothes, I packed the many shelves and cabinets around my room.

Packing the books into my reading room, I quickly put my clothes into the walk in, and my personal items started to appear around the room. An hour had passed of me walking around the room and I was up to my last box. It was the one filled with all the things I had bought with my mother.

It was painful to pack the items away, but I managed t do so without a single tear. I put the blue dress all the way to the back of the walk in, deciding that the only time I would wear it would be in a while. The high heels and the vans were put at the top of the shoe rack, and the jewellery was put into a Jeweller box that I had brought with me. It was blue, and studded with small plastic gems. It had miniature draws and a small mirror inside.

Checking the time again, I found that I was feeling hungry. It was 11:00pm, so I had to be quiet throughout the house. I walked out the room, and walking around the seemingly never-ending hallways and corridors, I quickly became lost. I suddenly heard a distant noise, like a repetitive thudding noise. Deciding that it would be a better idea to find someone who could help me around the house, I followed the noise.

It got louder and louder as I finally reached a steel door with a passcode lock on the side. I knocked on the door, hoping that whoever was inside could help me.

The door opened to a very sweaty looking Colton. A very shirtless and sweaty Colton. My eyes travelled down his six-pack and up his toned chest. He seemed to have caught me staring.

"You should take a photo, they last longer." I blushed at his deep voice.

"I wasn't staring!" I protested in denial. He just shrugged and asked me why I was here.

"Well, I got lost looking for the kitchen, and I was just wondering if you could help me there?" I asked, a hopeful tone in my voice. He nodded at my words and told me to wait for a bit. He went back into the room and walked al the way to the back of it to a yellow room at the back. Without his body obstructing the room, I could now see it clearly.

The room was gigantic,  made with steel beams holing up the ceiling and bright white lights going all the way down the room. It's size resembled a large oval, but instead of glass there was a granite floor, and the room was filled with nothing. There were two lines of metal beams,  one on each side of the room. Colton soon came back into view as he left the small yellow room inside.

He led me up a few corridors and I couldn't help but ask about the large space and why it was there.

"So, what was that place?" I asked, trying to mask my extreme curiosity.

"Oh! That is the training room. It really is just a large space underground that we can all go to and practice our powers in. It's underground because we don't want anything to happen to the house. It has central heating so it's never too cold down there. I don't know how you ended up down there though, it's even lower than the underground car park level."

I nodded at his explanation; it made sense. I didn't answer his question though, I mean, I didn't want him to know that I followed the sounds of a thud; he'd probably think I was some sort of stalker or something.

We made it to the kitchen and my stomach growled at the thought of food. Practically running to the fridge, I picked around, looking for something yummy. My hands landed on something and I took it out, finding a box of chicken curry. Licking my lips, I popped it into the microwave and heated it for 1 minute. I heard Colton's chuckle in the background as he saw my mad frenzy in the kitchen.

"What?" I pouted at him. He just shrugged.

The beeping noise coming from the microwave showed that the curry was ready. Running to get a fork, I took the curry out and started to eat. I shoved the first spoon into my throat and almost moaned at the flavour; it tasted amazing.

My hands couldn't scoop the curry into my mouth fast enough, and soon it was finished. I was so full that I was clutching my belly. I thought about going to bed, but then I decided against it. I had already woken myself up. I looked up from my bowl and saw that Colton hadn't moved. He was grinning like the Cheshire Cat, his perfectly straight teeth shining back at me.

"What's got you smiling all of the sudden?" I asked.

"No offence; but you eat like a pig." I looked at him with a shocked expression; did he really just say that? My mouth dropped at what he did next. He laughed. As in, clutching his stomach and falling on the floor laughing. I narrowed my eyes at him. He just laughed harder. Huffing, I put my plate in the dishwasher and walked out the room, not giving him a second glance.

"Wait....Vi...I'll...I'll take....you...back to...your room.." He said in between laughs. I just snorted and continued walking as he stumbled after me, his guffaws getting louder and louder. Oh, tomorrow, he was so gonna get it.

I continued to walk up a flight of stairs and surprisingly, I made it back to my room.

"Goodnight, Colton." I said to his still shaking form. He seemed to be wiping tears from his eyes...it wasn't that bad, right?

"Night...Vi." He said, still laughing.

I shut the door and sighed. What to do now? I couldn't go back to sleep, I was too awake. Read!

I ran over to the reading room. Closing the door, I looked at the different books lined up on the shelf. There were all my books and a few other books I hadn't read yet. I decided to read one of my favourite books, the fault in our stars by John Green. Sitting on the window nook that had now been filled with pillows, I started to read.

I started half way as I had already memorised the first half of it. It was two in the morning when I finished it, and I was bawling my eyes out. I finally felt tired enough and went back to my bed to sleep, and I dreamt of nothing in particular.
