Chapter 13
I woke up in my bed, this time with the room bathed in sunlight. Walking over to the curtains, I opened them up and looked in surprise to find that all this time it had led to a balcony. Opening the double doors made of glass, I walked outside and inhaled the sweet scent of pine. I found a coffee table and a blue couch chair with a pretty pillow sitting on top of it. Picking up the pillow, I moved onto the chair and relaxed, closing my eyes and taking in the sounds of the waking birds chirping away at the morning sun and the feel of the light breeze on my face. Opening my eyes, I watched the sunrise over the canopy of the forest trees, it's light creating silhouettes of tall trees two stories below on the grass. I sighed as I remembered why I was here instead of at home.
Opening the doors again, I got myself ready for the day. I had a quick shower and changed into an off-the-shoulder shirt with a plain pink tank-top underneath and a pair of running shorts. Walking barefoot, I entered the kitchen with only two wrong turns. Walking in, I found a plate of baked beans and toast on the dining table with a note besides it. It read:
Dear Vi,
You'll be spending today with Colton and John. The boys and I are going to enrol in the school. Colton will give you a mini tour of the house and a few extra things. See ya later!
Winter
I plopped down onto the chair after reading the note and started to eat. I still hadn't seen Colton, so I was guessing that he was still asleep. Eating the toast and baked beans one bite at a time, I finally finished and brought it to the sink. Colton finally made his appearance by walking into the room.
"You're up." I said.
"Yes I am, piglet, yes I am." My face burned at the nickname, memories of what happened yesterday coming back to me.
"I was hungry!" I said in protest. He just chuckled and shrugged. I pouted back at him, causing him to flash a smile.
"So! You're giving me a tour today." I said, trying to change the subject.
He gave an all knowing smirk and I pretended I didn't notice.
"Well then, let's get started."
I followed him all the way to the bottom floor, and from there we zig-zagged around the house. He showed me every nook and cranny of the house. We repeated the tour twice so that I could get it into my head.
This house was so much more amazing than I thought. The lower level was home to the training room, a universal bathroom, a storage shed that was literally the size of a shed and the 'sick bay' as Colton called it. It basically had everything a gym needed, only it was underground and part of the largest house I had ever stepped foot in.
The top underground level was home to the underground car park and the weapons room. It held all the glorious weapons in the world, in fact, I'm pretty sure that any man would be driven to tears at the sight.
The room itself was about as large as a small holiday cabin. It had guns of all sorts strapped onto the walls, and in the middle of the room was detonators, bombs, knives, swords, tritons and more. When I asked why the hell the house had to have a weapons room, he had replied, "Just in case."
The next floor up was basically a house on its own. It had a lounge room, a theatre room, the kitchen, another universal bathroom, a disco room and a large dining room. My mouth was hanging open at the various rooms on this floor alone. 'How can a house have all of this?' I thought as we walked up the next flight of stairs. 'You would think they had an indoor pool.' I thought to myself.
I was right. They did have an indoor pool. And an outdoor one that was covered with fake grass so that no one could see it. The next floor took me by surprise when I first looked at it. Three doors, no more. One to the left and two to the right of the very long corridor. I was curious as to why the corridor was so long. When I opened the one on the left, I was shocked, to say the least. The room was basically, just one big swimming pool. There were a few spas on the right of the ginormous pool, and it was probably why the corridor was so long. There was so much space needed that the corridor stretched along with it. Walking out of the swimming room, I opened the other doors.
One of them was another universal bathroom. Opening the other, I was surprised. It just looked like a room made of wooden benches. Colton smirked when I asked him where we were. He quickly went into the room, and with the press of a button, the room was filled with steam. It was a sauna. Of course it was.
The final level of the house was the bedroom level. Colton also said something about 'caves', but I brushed it off until I saw what he meant. Walking past the colourful corridor, he led me to a corridor with two doors, one white and one black. Opening the black door, I saw many video games and a blu-ray projection and screen that took up the whole back wall. Opposite it was another large semi-circle couch, this one red, and beside it was a popcorn maker. I gaped at the room.
"This, is the man-cave." I would have burst out laughing at his choice of words, but instead I drunk in the magical sight. Suddenly, I had a thought.
"Hey, why is it that only you guys got a cave? Us girls should have one too." I asked, slightly pouting. He murmured something about 'girls sharing one mind', but I tried to forget it; it would be preferable for him if he could still have children in the future. He closed the door and led me to the white one.
"This room is called Cloud Nine." He said. I just rolled my eyes at him and opened the door. I wasn't surprised at what I saw.
It was empty except for a thick material that looked like a sort of canopy. It was nailed to the walls and it covered the eyes from being able to see the ceiling. There was a small hole at the top, a rope ladder coming out from it. I felt excited as I looked at it.
"Go, climb it." I heard Colton say. Nodding, I swiftly picked up my legs and climbed the ladder. I was amazed when I reached the top. The walls went on for another few metres before they seemed to disappear. I looked up, expecting to see a wall but instead, my eyes met a blue sky filled with small puffs of white.
"We used to have another girl who lived with us. She was my sister. Her name was Indie. She and Winter created this."
The canvas-like material held up Colton and my weight. There were pillows and blankets scattered everywhere along the makeshift floor. The material dipped with every move I made.
"Wait, was? What happened to her? Indie, I mean." I asked. I hadn't met her, so I assumed she no longer lived here. A flash of pain went across Colton's face before it became the usual calm that it normally was.
"She was kidnapped over a year ago. We don't know what's happened to her. We all think she's dead." His voice was monotonous, but I could still hear hints of his sadness pouring out. I was going to say something, but he continued.
"Our parents were kidnapped first. They knew about our powers, and Indie's captors knew about her. The only way for her to come to them willingly would be to take her family, they knew that. So when I wasn't here, they came for her. She left, and I've never seen her since. When I got back, I found blood all over the floor. It wasn't my sister's, but my parents. They were dead, I knew it. But every trace of Indie vanished. Winter was heart broken. She wouldn't let me take this down. Everyday she comes up here and spends a bit of time here. Sometimes, she even sleeps here. Ever since you came though, she seems to have moved on slightly. She's not alone anymore." I blushed at his compliment.
"Thank you." I whispered.
"For what?" He asked.
"For being here for me." I looked up from the canvas piece, only noticing how close we were now. His breath mingled with mine, his eyes staring at my lips. We both looked at each other, and suddenly, I couldn't help it. I put my mouth on his, and we kissed.
