It was as if a trigger had been pulled and suddenly the room became tense. Winter flashed a look at Colton, before crying out,

"Why?! Why would they call a meeting! Actually, I don't care, because we aren't seriously going, right?"

John's face became grave as he just stared at Winter.

"No..." She whispered. Suddenly, she shot up from the couch and ran. I heard a sob coming from the direction of one of the corridors and seconds later, the sound of a door opening and slamming shut. I looked on with confusion as Colton looked blankly at the wall. Joey and Sam's usually cheerful demeanour had vanished; now their faces paled and they were silent, Sam pushing his hand through his hair over and over again, Joey whispering silent words to himself.

"What's wrong?" I asked, the confusion and curiosity of the situation like a weight on my shoulders which needed answers to lift it.

Colton shot an eye to the boys and immediately they left in the same direction as Winter, probably going into the Cave.

"John. Why have the Council called a meeting?" He asked with hard eyes. His once electric eyes were now slightly dim, hardening and looked quite menacing. I stood up to leave as it seemed quite tense in the room, but I felt a hand on me, pulling me back onto the couch lightly. Looking at thee hand, I followed it to see Colton. Nodding in understanding, I sat down and crossed my legs on the couch, a sign that I was listening.

"Violet, I am so sorry,  but I was hoping another meeting wouldn't be called for a while." Sighing, John put his fingers to his forehead and sighed in frustration. "You've only just started training, this isn't good at all."

"I'm sorry, but I don't understand." I told him truthfully.

"How I wish you didn't have to." He sighed again, "The Mutant Council is like the people who make sure that Mutants first of all stay hidden and second of all don't cause trouble. They make the laws to keep us safe. But, every now and then, something of importance may happen, possibly a prophecy or a large threat. It is in these times when the Council themselves cannot...rid the world of the threat or need to find the one who is prophesised, that they call a meeting."

I let the words digest. If there was a whole Council of Mutants, that would mean that there are more mutants in the world than I thought. Colton's tense figure reminded me of something. According to what John had said, it seemed as if the Council were good. But then, what was so bad about a meeting?

Seeming to read my mind, John said,

"The Council may be law makers, but when a meeting is called, all Mutants from all around the world are called. It can get very dangerous, not all the Mutants there are kind, or good hearted. Some will just lose control over their powers, something that can be fatal. So far, there has never been a meeting that has happened without fatalities. Most meetings, at least 10 Mutants will die on the first week."

"Week?" I asked. If it were a meeting, why would it go for a week?

"Mutants from all over the world come to the meeting. That's hard enough already. And, the Council do...other things in meetings."

"What other things?" I asked.

"The council are made of the strongest Mutants they can find. All Mutants are to take a test at the Council Centre. Then, they take the strongest Mutants to their base, where those mutants are trained to fight. They have no choice in the matter...they have to go if they are chosen."

I gulped, a shiver going down my spine, not from the cold, but from the thought of being forced to do something, the thought of it happening to anyone under this roof, but most of all, the thought of it happening to me or Colton.
