Chapter 15

We had trained for a few more hours after...you know what happened. I was sweating like a pig at the end of it. He had been getting me to move objects around the room, making them float, moving them around. We were testing for my limits, and in the end, he had taken me out to the car park. I had managed to move the RV 5 metres, but I had to stop after a while because it got too tiring.

I was currently having a shower when the doorbell went. As I came out, I walked upp the stairs and was greeted by a very happy Winter and the two boys. She came bounding up to me and wrapped her arms around me in a friendly hug.

"So, how was training?" She asked me.

"Tiring." I replied honestly, "And very fun."

"Cool!" She said, "Tomorrow we'll be taking you shopping for a few...things you'll need." She added, quite vaguely.

I just nodded and headed in the direction of the kitchen. Colton had left the training room quite some time ago, and I wasn't surprised at the fact that Colton was in the kitchen, definitely not. I was surprised that he was in the kitchen, cooking.

"I never thought of you as a chef." I said to him, pretending that what happened before never happened.

"Well, I most certainly am." He replied. Looking behind him, I though I saw a cupcake tray. Finding the opportunity too good to miss, I asked him,

"Are you making cupcakes?" I thought I saw a blush on his cheeks as he replied,

"No, of course not! I'm making, uh..."

Before he could react, I ran to the other side of his body, trying to see what he was making. I busted up laughing. There, on the kitchen counter, were these cute little cupcakes with butterfly sprinkles and pink icing. I heard him groan in frustration as he saw me laughing.

"Seriously? Just because I cook cupcakes?" He said.

"Well, if I eat like a guy, you cook like a girl." I fell to the floor with laughter wracking my body, causing me to hold my sides in case they fell out. Tears were threatening to spill over. Oh, that was grand.

He mumbled something but I didn't hear it. I quickly opened the gigantic silver fridge and took out an apple and began eating.

"Au revoir, Miss Volta." I said as I left the room, still with a smile on my face. Ha! That was so funny.

I was still tired, so I left the kitchen and went back to my bedroom. I had gotten used to the blue hues, and rather than finding it intimidating, I had gotten a relaxed feeling when I saw it. Walking in to my 'book room', I grabbed a random book and started to read it. It was about a girl who lived on the beach. Trying to find her place in the world, she leaves the small beach town and goes all over the world, until she ends up in France. Suddenly, she's thrown into an extremely cliché world of werewolves and vampires. Closing the book, a thought flew into my head. 'If mutants exist, are there such things as werewolves and vampires?'

Curious for answers, I looked around the house, trying to find someone to ask. Knocking on all the bedroom doors didn't work; it wasn't anywhere near evening yet. Wandering the many corridors of the house, I found myself in front of Cloud Nine, to scared to enter the 'man-cave' on my own. Knocking on the door, I heard the soft reply of Winter as she said, "Come in."

I walked in and went over to the rope ladder, climbing through the square shaped hole. Looking down at the bouncy material, I saw Winters red hair draped over it as she lay down, looking at the clear blue sky. She had an empty expression on her face as she looked at the puffs of cloud that were scattered all over the sky. Her green eyes flashed to my own brown ones before returning to the blue sky above her. I stepped onto the material, making it bob slightly under my weight.

"She and I always played here." She whispered to me. I stayed silent and let her talk. She was letting go of her feelings; the best way to approach was silent company.

"She and I were best friends. She was so shy, the first time we met. She had the most gorgeous blue eyes, and her hair had black streaks. She always knew she would be a mutant. Colton became one when he was young, and when you have a sibling who is a mutant, you will be a mutant." She paused as tears brimmed her eyes.

"When she finally got her power, she was devastated. You see, siblings will always have similar powers. Not exact, no. Exact powers happen around once every three generations. But similar powers, definitely. Colton's power is to control using the mind. But Indie's power was Blood Compulsion. She could move blood, make it do anything for her." Her eyes flashed with pain before they became empty again, a reflection of a summer sky.

"Do you know how when you first change, no matter what, you use your powers?" She asked me. I knew the question was rhetorical, but I nodded anyways. She continued,

"Well, when she changed, she felt this pull to blood. She killed so many people that day, Vi. There was so much blood-" Her voice caught in her throat as the sobs came.

"I didn't know-"

I shushed her comfortingly and put my arms around her. She cried in my arms, her tears wetting the canvas.

"She told me she couldn't help it, that she didn't know. I didn't listen! I told her I hated her. The next day, they took her. I didn't get to say sorry! And now, she's dead..."

We stayed in that position for a while until her sobs subsided. I persuaded her into taking a shower, completely forgetting the reason I had come to her in the first place. She whispered a 'thank you' as she went into her room. Finally remembering why I was looking for someone, I walked down the stairs and bumped into Colton. Literally.

"Ow!" I shouted as my head collided with his.

"Sh-" I glared at him before he could finish.

"Shoot." He continued.

I suddenly lightened up. He could tell me about werewolves!

"Uh, Colton?" I said as he started to walk away. With a sigh, he turned around and said, "Yes?"

"Do werewolves and vampires exist? I mean, mutants do, so it could be possible." I asked him.

He shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot.

"Well, I'm not meant to tell you about the others yet." Was all he said. I suddenly felt disappointment flow through me.

"Aww, but why?" I asked him, my voice whiney.

"Ok, first of all, don't whine. It's annoying. Second of all, the less you know, the safer you are." His eyes softened at the end. I just looked at him confused.

"What do you mean?" I asked him, wary of his words.

"Well, if something happens to you then the less you know, the less you'll get hurt. You'll probably just come off as an innocent mutant and-"

"What are the possibilities of me getting hurt though? It's not like I'm constantly in danger, right?" I asked him. He just started to look around the room nervously.

"Ok, I've said too much. I have to go." He quickly ran up the stairs in an attempt to run away. Before I could run to get him, he froze me. I tried to teleport, but it didn't work. My eyes widened at him.

"Before, when we were training, I took it a bit easy on you." I stared at him and he shrugged, running up the stairs. I heard the sound of a bedroom door slamming shut before I was released from his power. I was shaking. I didn't like the feeling of being stuck, not being able to move. Running up the stairs, I went to find Winter, still slightly shaken up. I found her in her PJs.

"Hey, Winter?" I asked her.

"Yeah?" She replied, her voice sleepy.

"Do you want to have a sleep over at Cloud Nine?" I asked her. I was shaken up by Colton's words and actions, and Cloud Nine was relaxing, but I wanted to stay with someone. Winter's eyes widened a little, then she shook her head up and down.

"Yes, please."
