Estrella's eyes opened long enough to feel pain from the lights then closed. She whined softly, feeling the soreness consuming her body, then opened her eyes again. She was in the hospital, she knew this because she heard the beeping noise from the heart monitor echoing around the room. She glanced down at her body to see the thin blanket slightly off and her gown was pulled up high enough to reveal a bandage wrapped around her thigh tightly and even one around her left wrist. She turned her head to see a large window overlooking the town, she must have been out for a while because it was still dark outside.
"Well, look who's finally awake."
Estrella's head followed that voice and there was, leaning his weight against the eggplant colored wall with his arms folded across his chest.
"Someone will see you." was all she could say. Lucifer grinned, flashing his white teeth.
"Not if I don't want them to, Estrella. Don't you remember what I told you?"
At first she wanted to say no, but the silence between them slowly made her reminisce. She tried to adjust herself to sit up but after realizing it wasn't worth the effort nor pain, she laid still.
"What happened?" she interrogated. He dropped his head. "Michael was there. He was pissed. He said some things about Jenna. Then... then he tried to kill me."
"I know," Lucifer said softly. He stepped forward, approaching her bedside to sit down on the chair. She turned her head towards him, trying to find sympathy on his face but it was blank like a plain sheet of paper. "I was told what happened to you. There's a lot of things going on and now you are in more danger than I've wanted you to be, and nothing I do will save you from what you will face."
Her heart's pace quickened and she swallowed hard. She didn't want to know but it was necessary. When she spoke, it barely came out audible.
"What's going on, Lucifer?"
"Michael has a soulmate too that has a family of her own, she's clueless about him. For years he has made sure she was absolutely jubilant and successful in her life, and because of a demon that I gave the order to, has ruined all of that. Her husband is dead, her house caught fire and she was fired from her job. He knows it was because of me," he paused and Estrella waited impatiently for him to continue. "he wants to get even with me. Now the Angel Of Death is after you and she won't rest until you're dead, you were supposed to die in that crash."
"That crash was purposely intended?" Estrella whispered, letting the information sink in. Lucifer nodded.
"Yes it was."
"Why didn't I die?"
"You did," he replied. "but I brought you back before it was too late."
Estrella let out a soft cry and covered her mouth with her hands, letting the tears stream down her cheeks. Lucifer grimaced, then stood and walked over towards the window. He blamed himself for this, which he should because it is his fault, but now he knew it was his job to protect her the best he could. Michael and the Angel Of Death would not stop until she was dead. "I'll protect you."
"How?" she cried. "you're hardly ever around!"
"I won't have to be around. There are fifty demons in this hospital and nine hellhounds as we speak, they're not going to get to you."
"So, I'm pretty much guarded by demons and ugly mutts?" she asked, wiping away her tears. "great. Just great! I think they're demons for a reason, why do they care about me?"
"They don't have to care to follow my commands, sweetheart. You're safe." Lucifer looked down at the parking lot to watch the vehicles come and go, when she asked;
"Do you have Jenna?" he was silent. "Michael said you did. Please tell me he was lying to me, Lucifer."
Lucifer bowed his head, wanting to lie but he knew she was questioning him.
"Estrella..."
"No," she choked. "tell me he was lying to me!"
The pain in her voice made it hard to him to admit it. He turned towards her, watching her cry while staring at him with hurt in her eyes.
"He wasn't lying."
Estrella's heart broke and even though she was trying not to sob, it happened anyways. She couldn't look at him, she wanted to yell at him and hit him but all she could do was lie in this bed and cry. Cry about everything.
"I'll never forgive you."
"You don't have to," Lucifer said carelessly. "just let me protect you."
She didn't want him to, but she knew that she needed the protection from him. No one else but him. Deep down, she knew he was the only one who could save her now.
Hey guys, I hope that chapter was worth the wait. I can promise you that there is a lot more to come because I've been writing chapters like crazy, I just haven't been posting them yet because they are currently rough drafts. But, I would appreciate it if you scrolled down and left a comment giving me your feedback because it is important to me. Also I would like to say that the picture I used for this chapter is lyrics from a band called Evans Blue, if you were curious.
