Hermione's pov.

It's a few days after I had slept in Draco's bed and every night since I have felt incomplete. But today, September 19th is going to be a good day.

Today is my birthday! I jump out of bed and throw on my robes. I bounce across the hall and rap on Draco's door. Moments later he opens it. He looks tired like he didn't sleep a wink but his face brights when he sees me.

"Guess what?!" I say smiling.

"What?" He asks.

"It's my birthday!" I say twirling around him.

"Happy birthday." He says leaning forward and giving me a kiss. I kiss him back enthusiastically. There's a knock at the portrait. I slip out of his embrace and run down the stairs. I see him turn and go back into his room to change.

Reaching the portrait I fling it open and find Harry Ron and Ginny. They echo a chorus of happy birthday. I invite them in and they go in for hugs. Dame it. I hug Ginny tightly and then give Harry and Ron each a quick hug trying not to wince openly. We sit down on the couches and they each hand me a present.

"Open mine first!" Says Ginny smiling. I do and find a lovely red sweater.

"Thank you so much, Ginny!" I say holding up the sweater. Harry hands me his next and I pull out the novel: 'Curses and their origins by Fredrick Wimble.'

"You remembered!" I cry in delight as I run my fingers over the cover. Last summer we had gone on a trip together to Diagon Alley and I had seen the book in the shop window of Flourish and Blott's bookstore but didn't have enough gold to buy it. I feel slightly jealous and look up at the bedrooms. Draco was there watching me open presents. I look away so the others wouldn't follow my gaze. I can tell he wishes he had gotten me something.

Next Ron hands me a loosely wrapped box. I open and see a box of chocolate frogs.

"Thanks, Ron." I say managing a small smile. Draco's emotions were dampening my happiness.

"Can I meet you guys in the great hall? I need to grab something." They nod and exit. I rush up the stairs and knock on Draco's door.

"Listen it's fine that you didn't know it was my birthday. How could you have?" I say through the solid wood. Draco flings open the door and pulls me into a tight hug but then disappears back into his room. I think no more on the subject and proceed down to the great hall.

I plop down beside Ginny and grab some toast. I feel the bench groan and look up. Cormac. I look up at him and punch him in the face.

"Get out of my sight!" I scream at him. The table has turned to look at us. He seems surprised by my actions and stands up to leave but close to my ear whispers.

"I will get you, one of these days." I shudder, closing my eyes as he walks away. Ginny gives me a questioning look and Harry and Ron seem amazed.

"I don't want to talk about it." I say quietly. I feel pride and look back at Draco on the opposite side of the hall. He's smiling at me and I smile back.
