Scars: A Dramione Veela Story

Chapter 33

Draco's pov.

I sit staring at the fire for some time after Hermione leaves to go talk to her friends before coming to my conclusion. I am going to find the necklace of Flare-Glass. It had the power to let a veela's mate not suffer if their veela is hurt. And if my father is coming for a visit I will be hurt. This necklace will protect Hermione from my pain. It was last rumoured to be in the glass castle in the Flare valley in France. I run up the stairs and grab my travelling cloak and write a quick message to Hermione telling her I will be gone for a day. It's Saturday night so I will have all of Sunday to search.

I walk purposely toward the gates of the castle and upon reaching them disapparate. I land on a hill of grass and swaying daisies. The valley is before me. I walk down to the shimmering building on the edge of the lake. I reach the castle and walk in. The building could be made of diamonds it held so much beauty. It was nothing compared to Hermione though.

I walk for hours in the maze-like castle. The sun had falling long ago behind the mountains and the valley had been cast in shadow. I find it's supposed box empty and stare at it pensively for a time.

"I knew you would come veela." Says a voice from the shadows. I draw my wand and turn around.

"Who are you?" I ask. The figure steps into the light reviling an old balding wizard.

"I am...uh...umm I don't remember." He says stroking his stubby beard. He wears the necklace around his neck.

"You are here for my necklace yes?" He asks.

"Yes, my mate needs it." I say

"No they do not. You need it to keep them safe. I know boy. I was a veela's mate once but she gave me this necklace. Do you know what happened next boy?"

"No."

"She died. Dead because I couldn't feel her pain as a vampire tore her limb from limb." He paused looking at me hard.

"Be careful boy. This necklace could cause your mate great pain by not feeling any of yours." I reach out my hand but he bats it away.

"You must tell me why you need this necklace." I look at him thinking up a believable lie.

"I fight a lot I get hurt and it hurts her." I say looking at the old man.

"Tell me the truth and the necklace is yours." My eyebrows descend closer to my eyes.

"My father is paying me a visit I believe I will come to harm in this encounter and I wish to protect my mate from this unnecessary pain," I say.

"You had the look of a broken man." He says taking the necklace from his own neck and placing it in my palm.

"How long has he been hurting you?" He asks.

"Thirteen years," I tell him easily as if he were my friend.

"Poor son. It will not stop will it." He says turning away.

"I think not," I mutter to myself.

I reach the door of my common room at five in the morning the necklace in my fist. The trip took less time then I had thought. I slump down on one of the couches and running my hands over my hair and face. I pull off my cloak and look down at the chain in my hand. It's very pretty with a simple gold chain and a smooth shard of glass. I doze off eventually.

"Draco?" Hermione says shaking my shoulder.

"Morning," I say kissing her. She sits down beside me on the couch tea in hand.

"You weren't supposed to be back till later." She says.

"Ya it took less time than I thought it would. But here's your present." I hold out the necklace to her and she takes it in her hand.

"Before you put it on, it's not a normal necklace. It was made for a veela's mate so that they can't feel their veela's pain." She looks at me.

"Why would I want that?" She asks.

"You don't need to wear it all the time but when I ask you to wear it would you please?" She looks at the necklace and then puts it around her throat.

"Of course." She says smiling.

"I actually have something to ask of you too. Would you come for Thanksgiving at my house to meet my parents?" She asks taking my hand.

"Of course," I say smiling.
