"Having a soft heart in a cruel world, is not weakness it's courage." (~Unknown) My mom would always tell me this whenever I felt down, letting me know that it's ok to be who I am it's ok to be myself. When I got older, around my preteen stage, I started hitting puberty but not like other girls, things started to change. I was in the bathroom right after gym class and like the other girls I wanted to fix my makeup so I went to the mirror to check it, but the thing was I couldn't quite see myself in the mirror I started to freak out. I ducked so that no one else saw the 'vampire girl' was actually turning into a vampire! From that day on I never went into the bathrooms at school and avoid the locker rooms the best I could.

Around 8th grade is when everything started to get interesting. It was a normal day nothing unusual was happening. I went into class like normal and sat in my seat, then started reading my book. That day the teacher came in and was talking, the only part i heard was that there was a new student. Like usual everyone had always already heard the story about me so no one ever got near me. So i didn't pay attention cause i knew it was likely for this person to talk to me. I payed no attention to what the teacher wass saying it was all background noise until i hear her say that there is an open seat right next to me! My head shoots up and i look for this mysterious person who has to sit beside me.

"Hey" this smooth and cooling voice calls out to me, I look over to see if this person was talking to me. When i look over i see this boy who almost looks like a grown man, his chiseled chin and his blinding smile is what catches my eyes first. "Keith, Keith Miller." He says.

"H..hi my names Emily, Emily Smith." I say. When i make eye contact i freak as i feel something in my chest start the throb. What was he doing to me with his deep dark blue eyes it was like looking into the ocean when it's storming. I felt as if i could read his whole story through his eyes. He puts his hand out and smiles.

"Nice to meet you Emily." He says. I shake his hand and i feel that throb in my chest again. He turns away and listens to what the teacher is talking about. I can't concentrate on my book at all, i keep watching him out of the corner of my eye. I kept thinking maybe he doesn't know the stories yet, maybe we can be friends before he finds out, I can prove that i'm more than what people say about me. As soon as the bell rings i try and hurry to put my stuff away in my backpack so that i can catch up to him before he leaves the door, i jump up and fling my backpack on literally chasing him out the door.

"HEY!" I call out to him. "Hey1 Keith!" i say "wait up." i run up to catch up to him, again i look up at his face with that same smile that catches me off guard and my chest throbs again.

"Hey Emily." he says. "So i guess i already made a friend, wow i guess my mom was right!" i start the giggle and he laughs along to. For the first time in my life, me, Emily Smith has my very first friend.
