A Bite

Chapter 19

This morning I was getting ready for school. I really don't want to go today. I was ready to go my mom offered to take me to school but I would rather just go alone today, I grabbed my bike and started riding. When I got to school Amber ran up to me first thing before I even got off my bike she gave me a huge bear hug. "Emily, I heard about the fight are you ok I heard that you got pushed. Is there anything you want me to do?" I embraced her hug back "Actually I could really use a friend right now." I chained my bike up we both walked into the school I saw lots of people looking at me a few people whisper when I walk by. Amber and I got to my locker Keith walked by he had a cut on his lip and a black eye from yesterday .he glanced at me but kept walking. Today is going to be a long day I told myself. In first period Keith was sitting in his normal seat but he's refusing to look at me. I'm doodling in my note book wondering why I'm even going to school it's not like it will help me in life I'm a vampire so I'm not going to need a job. Someone behind me tapped on my shoulder so I turned around, they gave me a little piece of folded paper. I opened it up there was a picture of a treehouse with a heart over it. I could hear people giggling behind me. Then I raised my hand "yes mrs. Smith?" The teacher said "May I go to the restroom?" I asked "yes." She replied when I got up some of the boys whistled. As I walk by the trashcan I threw the paper away. I walked down the empty hallway and into the bathroom. Two girls were already in there 'great just what I need' I thought to myself. In the stall I could hear them whispering about me. I can't cry I have cried to much lately but all I can think about is Silas hitting Keith in the face then he left me! Who knows where he is now. When I step out of the stall they stop talking and go back to doing their makeup in the mirror. As I wash my hands I can feel them staring at me. I walk out of the bathroom then back to my class. When I am about to turn the handle to the door Keith comes up behind me. "Em" I turn around "Keith what are you doing out here?" "
When you walked out of the room I needed to talk to you. I saw the picture that someone drew."
"Oh." I sighed "Are you okay?" He asked "I don't know." I shrugged
"Come on where's my... umm... the smiley girl I know." I smile with my fangs out but he didn't even flinch.
"There she is." Blue eye gave me his perfect smile "I know this is probably the last thing you want to talk about, but what is Silas? I know he is not human. The dent in my truck gave me that hint." I sigh " he is a tengu which means he can turn into a raven. I am also part tengu. He knew my mother before she died." I looked down at my feet His blue eyes are sad and it looks like he's about to say something but he doesn't. I add "Silas left the night of the fight." Now my tears come out, at least in the restroom no one could see. He pulls me into a quick hug then he says "We should probably get back to class." I agreed then we walked in the class with our heads held high I don't know why I care what people think. I'm a vampire I could drink every person in this room and they won't even remember it! By the end of the day I was feeling a little bit better I talked to Amber and Keith although, I can't stop thinking of Silas I daydream about him I was thinking about him so much I thought I saw a raven in the tree outside the classroom window. But it was only there for a minute then I blink it was gone. I think I'm going crazy. I think today I'm going to fly home, just leave my bike here over night. It was lunch time I sit with Amber, even though she could be sitting anywhere, with anyone. I never eat neither does she, maybe today Amber and I can go hunting later. "Amber would you like to go hunting after school with me?" She smiles with her fangs out "let's go now!" She said "it's not like they are going to do anything if we leave." I agree we both get up and walk out of the school. "I know a perfect place to hunt! Amber says "The bar, actually there of people there during the day. I have been there once or twice for food!" She smiles. When we arrive there are 15 cars in the parking lot. "Do you want to split up or go together?" I ask her she replies "Together!"
We both walk in and really sell it, like a model's walking down a runway. Some of the men stop drinking and look at us we both go sit at the bar stools when two men approach us. We turn to each other smile then spin the stool where we are facing them in unison. "What are you ladies up to?" The man on the left asks Amber talks first "Oh you know, just having some fun." She's a natural I thought to myself she crosses her legs. Then the one one the right spoke "Well ladies. I have a brand new sports car if you guys want to come with us for a test drive." We got them hooked I reply "We would love to!" I giggled and flipped my hair out of my face. Amber and I got off the stools when one of the men came really close beside me. I just went with it. We got out to the parking lot he brought us to his red Corvette. Amber spoke up " Can we show you guys something now?" She raised her eyebrows the leaned on the car. Both of the men looked like hungry dogs begging for a treat. Amber and I sprang at the same time I grabbed the one closest to me and bit into his throat he was paralyzed with fear. I pulled back then said to him "You will not remember me or her, You came out here to leave the bar." Amber was doing the same as soon as she was done we both ran, ran faster than any human until the bar was out of sight. we were both laughing. " that was fun!" I said "We should do that more often they were so hopeless! I did like his car." We both laughed and walked back to school.
