"Aaaaah!!!!"

Emma sat up quickly in a chair, her breath heavy, sweat slick on her skin, and a scream wailing from her throat.

She turned to find Killian's arms on her shoulders, his eyes wide with worry.

"Where am I?!" Emma asked, afraid. Tears poured down her face as quickly took in her surroundings.

"You're at school, at your desk, darling. What's wrong? What happened?"

She shook her head violently, not realizing the reality before her.

"No, no he was out! He was out and he'd knocked me out or something, and you and Mary-Margret and Regina were here, Ruby too... I was eating, I passed out after I took I bite..." Emma rambled, fear invading her mind.

"Emma... who was out? What are you talking about?"

"Gold was out," Emma insisted. "And I was right there, on the floor, and I was being taken to the hospital because of him!" Emma cried, pointing to a spot on the floor. Her head pounded in pain and she leaned onto the desk, holding it in her hands.

Killian's eyes softened in understanding. The terror of Gold and his men... it was consuming her once more. It occurred to him that Emma had never really gotten the chance to thoroughly talk through the experience.

"Did you just get here?" Emma asked nervously before he could say anything.

"Aye, love, you were only dreaming. Although I did bring you some lunch," he answered, putting a bag from Granny's on her desk. Emma eyed the bag nervously, backing away from it slightly.

"Can you check if there's a note in that bag," Emma whispered. Killian watched her, confused, but complied to her request when he saw the terrified look on her face.

"It's going to be alright, Emma. I promise," he said, taking her hand in his. With the other, he opened the bag and took out all the contents. "See? The only paper in here is the receipt. It was just a bad dream, darling. A dream," he soothed, taking her into his arms.

"It felt so real," Emma shivered, Killian tightening his grip around her.

"I know, darling. I know," Killian soothed, rubbing her head.

"So... are the kids out for recess? What...?" Emma asked, still disoriented.

"Aye, love, they are. Not to worry, you've got another ten minutes or so," Killian answered, dropping a loving kiss on her forehead. "Oh, baby, you're burning up, my love," Killian said with a sad smile.

"I'm okay," Emma said unconvincingly.

"Is that so?" Killian asked. She nodded slightly, wiping a line of sweat from her forehead.

"Can you call Liam? Please, can you just... just make sure he isn't out, please," Emma pleaded.

"Of course, love. Of course," Killian assured her, rubbing her back gently as he dialed his brother's number.

He spoke to him, explaining the situation about Emma and quickly learned that Gold was locked away in his cell and wouldn't be getting out for a long time. He passed the message to Emma who sighed in relief.

"Swan, you really should come home and rest, you're of no use to the kids if you can hardly sit upright," Killian insisted.

"You were gonna talk to Robin about something, something about me," Emma mumbled, not listening to Killian's words.

"What's that, Swan?"

"It was about me..." she muttered, falling towards her desk, but quickly catching herself.

"Emma. You need to come home. Look at yourself, your skin is far too pale, your eyes are red, and you haven't eaten..."

"No!" Emma said hysterically, clearly sick and exhausted. "No this is like my dream, you didn't want me to stay, you didn't..." with that, she slumped forward, out like a light.

Two hours later, her head was over the toilet back home as Killian held her hair back.

"That's it, love, let it all out. I promise you'll feel better afterward," Killian said softly, holding Emma from behind, her hair in one hand, as what little food she'd had in the past day came back up.

"Ughmm," Emma groaned, little tears of pain escaping her eyes. She slumped back weakly into Killian's arms as he gently wiped her mouth clean.

"Let's get you to bed. Come on, darling," he said, gently lifting her up bridal style in his arms. She cuddled up to his chest as he carried her back to their bed, and didn't have to heart to let her rest alone when she clung tearily to him as he tried to set her down.

"The kids, I have to teach," Emma mumbled, half asleep. "Henry and Molly..."

"Don't worry, Swan, Regina's dropping them off after school and they've gotten a sub to fill in for you. You just relax right here with me," Killian insisted, kissing her forehead.

He watched over her, realizing that whatever she was sick with was worse than what Molly had.

Emma shivered in the bed, even with all the blankets over her.

"Cold," she murmured miserably, her teeth chattering as she pulled the covers up to her chin.

"Darling, you've gotta get rid of some of those sheets. You're burning up with a fever, you can't have your body be so warm," Killian insisted, hating seeing her so hurt. He pulled back a cover gently, watching as Emma shivered and curled up into a little ball under the remaining blankets.

"Killian," she cried in pain, tears falling onto her pillow.

"I know, baby, I know," he soothed from the other side of the room as he folded the blanket.

He went over to her side, taking her hand into his and bringing her knuckles to his lips. She whimpered softly in pain as tears leaked out of her eyes. Killian nearly sobbed at the sight of her in so much pain and with no way to help her.

"Can you tell me what hurts, my love?" Killian asked softly, getting her a glass of water.

"My ears, Killian, my ears," she cried, holding them.

"Your ears?" Killian asked. She nodded tearfully, laying her head in his lap when he sat beside her on the bed.

"My head too," Emma whispered, her tears falling onto Killian's legs as he stroked her hair gently.

"We'll go back and see Doctor House tomorrow, love. This may have something to do with the operation," he explained, worried.

"Will I lose my hearing again?" Emma whispered, turning her head to reveal tear-filled eyes staring up into Killian's.

"I don't know, darling. I really don't know," Killian answered honestly, cradling her head in his lap until she fell asleep of exhaustion.
