"Mama, vamos a llegar tarde a la escuela!"
At a bright early morning, Carson was looking for his mother, not wanting to be late for school. Even though he hates school as much as the next guy, he does not want his mother to be late for work.
As soon as they arrived at the school district, he accompanied his mother to her office. Meanwhile, there was a commotion going on in the hallways and with curiosity, Carson wanted to check it out. He pushed himself into the crowd and tried to have a good view of the clamor. Oh no... Backing away slowly, the brunette is witnessing a sudden beat down between 'Red Wire' and a bunch of reckless students.
"Quit struggling," a student called out as he clenched on the arms of the mute.
Carson immediately ran away from the crowd not wanting to see the American get pummeled. When he headed back to his mother's office, Carson suddenly had a weird feeling on this chest. Why did I run away? I could have helped him. Guilt crosses his mind and he hated that feeling. He wanted to help the mute, but at the same time, he does not want to help him. Carson has already experienced being betrayed by a person he has helped for a long time and he is not willing to take that chance in enduring that experience again. Meanwhile, as his mother was organizing her materials, Carson called to her and asked for a favor.
"Um... Mama."
His mother looked at him while setting her papers down.
"Can you not be mean to the quiet boy?"
His mother looked at him confused. "Which boy?"
"The black haired boy, with glasses, you know el único mudo."
"Ah, him! We will see if he does good."
Carson was relieved after hearing his mother's words and smiled. Everything will be fine. Carson contemplated.
When physical education started, Carson kept his eye on the mute, making sure if he was fine. He never kept his eyes away from him for the entire time; however, at the same time, he felt weird since him staring at him makes him look like a stalker. Nonetheless, the mute was okay who seemed to be conversing with nothing. Carson believed that he might have a mental condition or something out of the ordinary since almost every day he sees him conversing with air. Ignoring his theories that popped up in his head, Carson smiled, seeing how everything was going smoothly as the class was finishing up their stretches. When the class went outside, Carson decided to just focus on his running and take a break from looking over the mute; however as soon as physical education was almost over, Carson became petrified after seeing the mute collapsing on the ground.Carson immediately stopped running and approached the kid. He did not help him up but watched as he saw Maxime watching the American with an evil grin.
"What did you do," Carson yelled at Maxime.
"Oh, this," Maxime snickered. "You think I did this to him. He did this to himself. Tsk Tsk. I tried to warn him that using up all of his energy, will strain him, but... Oh, well."
"Well, aren't you going to help him!? He looks seriously hurt!"
"Pshhh, me! Ha, that is not my job to help this mess. Just leave it to the janitor."
As Maxime walked away, Carson stared at him with disgust and went to his mother to help him up to the nurse's office. Poor kid.
As the days past, Carson has been witnessing more pain that the mute has been enduring. The more he observes the boy, the more stress Carson becomes. Everyday Carson was seeing the mute being scolded, pummeled, and victimize by his fellow schoolmate. For instance, during lunch time he saw the boy surrounded by Maxime, Damien, and Parker, forcing the poor child to eat, by shoving the food on his face or whenever the mute tries to find a place to sit he ended up eating with his face on the floor. As Carson watches this, he began to question the school system and its security. Nevertheless, Carson wanted to help him really badly, but he does not know what will happen if he did. Will he be betrayed? Will his friends treat him differently if he bonds with the criminal? Will a terrible path come to his future come his way? Carson is still rethinking about helping the mute, yet the more he thinks the more he regrets every second.
