Really, dinner was quite fun and if it were under any other circumstances, Nora would have made new friends that day. But, alas, the circumstances were rather shitty. Nora didn't know whether to feel angry at Oliver or angry at herself...

"Nora! Hello?"

She snapped out of her mental rant and looked up at Oliver. "What?"

"I said are you ready to go home?"

She looked around and noticed Richard and Louisa were gone. "Where did they go?"

He raised his eyebrow at her. "We just said bye to them. You even thanked Louisa after she complimented your dress. Are you okay?"

She did have a tendency to go on autopilot. "Yeah! I just... let's go home."

"Do you not want to stay? We can have dessert?"

Nora wasn't really in the mood to do anything. She looked like a million dollars (and was probably wearing the equivalent with all the diamonds on her) yet she felt crushed. They had been together for nearly six years! Six years! He should have proposed. It was time.

"No, let's just go home," She sighed in a tone bereft of any enthusiasm.

The silence of the car journey was palpable and any conversation Oliver tried to start was quickly shut down. Deep down, Nora knew she shouldn't have been mad at Oliver. She should have known not to expect much from him. Relationships were not his forte and she should have realised he wouldn't propose. He seemed hurt and confused every time she answered him in monosyllabic responses but for once she didn't care.

After arriving home, Nora stormed up to their room. Oliver chased her after noticing the tension between them.

"Nora! Stop. Wait. What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I'm fine."

"Well, it's obviously not nothing! Why are you ignoring me? Did I upset you? 'Cause if I did then-"

"Can we drop this? Now?" She was growing angrier by the second. Even if she tried to explain how she was feeling, he wouldn't understand.

"No, Nora! We can't! Why are you shutting me out?" She walked up to him and pointed at the zip on her back. He unzipped it swiftly and forced her to turn around and face him. He had that puppy look on his face again. "Please let me in. Tell me what's wrong."

She let her dress fall onto the floor and stepped out of the heap. To tell the truth, she felt rather smug because of the way Oliver's eyes were raking up and down her body. Obviously she wore her best lingerie, she thought she was getting proposed to! He quickly snapped out of his daze and grabbed her hand as she attempted to walk away.
