Nora woke up the next day to the sound of knocking on her door. As she tried to raise her head, a terrible pain suddenly shot through her body and she collapsed back onto her bed.
"Shit," She groaned. She recognised the familiar pain that came with her period.
The person behind the door knocked again.
It took everything in Nora to get out of bed. She swung her legs first and tried her best not to bend her stomach in anyway. After slipping her feet into her fluffy black slippers and slipping on a robe, Nora shuffled to the front door and opened it. Standing behind the door was a smiling Ben who subsequently stopped smiling after seeing the pained expression on Nora's face.
"Nora? Are you okay?"
As she opened her mouth to speak, she suddenly felt last night's sushi rising up her throat and quickly sprinted to the bathroom. Hunched over the toilet bowl, Nora retched up all her stomach's contents. She felt Ben's hand hold her hair away and rub her back gently.
"Oh my god Nora, are you okay?"
She shook her head, unable to formulate any sentences and leaned back against the bathroom's wall. Ben sat down beside her, loosening his tie.
"I wanted to see you before I went to work because I tried calling but there was no answer. If you want I can take the day off and stay with you."
Nora shook her head. "N-no," She managed to croak. "It's only because of my period."
Ben laughed and sighed in relief. "I thought you were pregnant there for a second."
Nora coughed loudly, being caught of guard, and turned to sternly glare it him, weakly raising her elbow to nudge him. "I think I nearly threw up again there."
Ben laughed again and placed a kiss on her sweaty cheek. "The offer still stands though. Actually it's not an offer. I don't feel like working today anyway."
"What about your clients?"
"They're all a bunch of criminals anyway," Ben joked.
"Aren't lawyers meant to convince people their clients are innocent?" Nora chuckled.
"Yes but I'd never lie to you, Nor.
Anyway, you will have to come back to the house with me because Jenny will get dropped off later so I hope you're okay with that. I don't like being separated from her."Nora wanted to politely decline but the offer was too tempting so she nodded and reached her hand to hold his. The second her clammy palms met his hand, his fingers curled up to hold hers. She turned to face him and saw him already watching her carefully.
"I really want to kiss you right now," He sighed.
"I taste like vomit."
He shrugged. "I don't care." He slowly and gently kissed her, barely touching his lips with hers. When he backed off, Nora stared at him.
