"Sure!" Rafe replied contentedly. Mr. Salvestro sighed heavily before joining his brother, leaving me standing alone. I internally glared at Mia. I loved her to death but sometimes she can definitely be a nuisance. However, when I looked at her happy face when Rafe sat beside her, my anger disseminated. She deserves to be happy. I can't be selfish right now. This is her night and I need her to enjoy. Jackson on the other hand seemed to brood.

"What are you waiting for, Miss Wilson?" Mr. Salvestro snapped bringing me out of my thoughts and I then realized I was still standing there like the stupid dork that I am. I noticed Mr. Salvestro move a little bit to make room for me. How considerate!

I walked towards my seat while tugging my dress before finally taking a seat near the devil himself. But did he smell good. The only thing about him is his amazing cologne. And his face, and his voice and his way of dressing up and his.. STOP! I internally screamed at my subconscious. She was not being helpful at all.

Our table was filled with awkward silence. Only the constant chatter of Rafe and Mia could be heard, while Mr. Salvestro was busy typing on his phone, as usual and Jackson looked as if he preferred to be anywhere but here.

I noticed him scratching his head from time to time, meaning he was really uncomfortable. Thank goodness, I saw the waiter coming. He was kind of cute with his blonde hair and green eyes.

"Hello, everyone." He said merrily. Wow, someone seems to be in a good mood. "I'm John and I will be your waiter tonight." His eyes snapped to mine and he winked, making me blush furiously. However, a few seconds later, his complete demeanor changed and his face turned from a jovial mood to a completely blank one. What just happened here?

I looked at everyone and saw Mia sending me signals through her eyes. I mouthed what at her and she not sighed heavily before pointing discretely at Mr. Salvestro.

I looked at him and saw that he was still typing on the phone. I looked at Mia and shrugged. She shook her head before ordering her food. What did she mean?

"And what will you have ma'am?" I noticed the frightened tone of John.

"I'll have a mushroom risotto."

"And what about drinks?"

"A coke would be fine." John nodded before heading back to the kitchen.

Jackson cleared his voice before talking. "So, Ava, I was wondering since we've never had lunch before, why not go tomorrow?"

"Oh, I—" Before I could accept his invitation, somebody cut me off.

"She won't be free tomorrow." Mr. Salvestro replied for me without even taking his eyes off his off.

"Oh, okay." Jackson answered dejectedly. "But what about the day after tomorrow, Ava?"

"She will not be free this whole week." Mr. Salvestro replied looking straight at Jackson. "And instead of going on lunches, Mr. Jackson, I would appreciate if you could spend some more time in delivering good performance. Otherwise, I will have to start thinking about whether to renew your contract or not." I noticed Jackson gulp before nodding.

Good Lord! This man has no manners at all. Is this some way of talking?!

"May I know why will I not be free this week?" I have no idea how I got the nerve to ask his this question. It was when the words came out of my not so smart mouth that I realized what I had actually done.

"We'll have meetings during this week. I'll fill you in tomorrow." My mouth was still wide opened like a goldfish. I can't believe that he did not shout or snap at me.

"O-okay." I replied meekly.

The table went back to being silent but I decided to break the ice with Jackson. I did not want him to feel bad about how Mr. Salvestro talked to him. So, we talked about everything and about anything. I noticed he was feeling better now.

Soon, John brought our food. I closed my eyes before relishing the good aroma of the mushroom risotto.

Losing no time, I began digging in. I moaned when I tasted the food inside my mouth. "It's delicious." It was then that I realized that everyone was looking at me. Mia was smirking at me while Rafe was smiling wickedly at me.

"I'm sorry." I said bashfully before taking another bite. However, the fact that I was really hungry caused me to swallow wrong and I began to couch uncontrollably.

"Oh my God!" Mia nearly screeched.

I felt Mr. Salvestro put his hand behind me and he began to tap my back. I helped a little. I was able to breathe.

"Look at me." Mr. Salvestro ordered. I turned towards him, wiping the few droplets of tears that came out of my eyes while I was coughing. He was glaring at me. Great! I was victim of an incident and he was glaring at me.

He took my coke from the table and roughly handed it to me. "Drink." He commanded. I took a huge sip of my coke and noticed that it helped to digest the food better. I kept drinking my coke until it was nearly over.

"Hey, are you okay, Ava?" I heard Jackson ask behind he. I slightly turned towards him and saw how scared he looked. Oh God, now I feel even more guilty. I turned this dinner into a disaster.

"Does she look okay to you, Jackson? Are you blind? Can't you see that she nearly died because she could not breathe?" Mr. Salvestro growled murderously at Jackson and I felt his hand tighten on my back. I then realized that from the incident until now, he was still holding me.

"I'm sorry. It was a stupid question." Jackson replied guiltily.

"Damn right, it was a stupid question." Not knowing what to do to stop Mr. Salvestro from shouting at Jackson, I hesitantly placed my hand on his arm. His eyes snapped back to mine and he sighed heavily.

"I'm fine. Thank you." I reassured him.

"Do we need to take you to the hospital?" Mr. Salvestro asked concernedly.

"Seb, she's fine. She just swallowed wrong. Stop overreacting, you're scaring her." Rafe replied for me making me laugh.

Mr. Salvestro's face changed from a concerned one to a less tensed one. "Are you sure you're alright?" Mr. Salvestro asked once again.

"Yes, I'm better. Thank you." I told him looking straight at him. I can't believe Mr. Salvestro could have a caring side. I guess, he's not that bad.

"So, let's get back to eating." Mia said breaking my thoughts. We nodded and began eating once again.

I was eating my food when I slightly coughed.

"Are you okay? Do you need something?" Mr. Salvestro asked worriedly.

"Yes, I'm fine. It's just an occasional cough. You should calm down." I told him.

He glared at me before muttering something in Italy before going back to eating. However, what really stunned me was that his hand was still hanging on my back. Not that I was complaining. His hand was keeping me warm. He perhaps forgot to remove it. Yes, he definitely forgot to remove it.
