I went home with a huge smile on my face. His face was worth watching. If I had the power to stop time, I would and I would have taken a picture of his surprised face. He thinks he will be able to stop me from working! Haa!
I was so tired when I reached home that all I did was take a shower and went to bed. I didn't even have the energy to prepare myself noodles and eat. All I did was get into my bed and went into a deep slumber.
*
I woke up with new found energy and motivation. I had to admit though, a good night's sleep make everything look better. I showered and wore a nice simple dress. I was humming Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars but stopped when my phone went off. I looked at who was calling. Damn, my landlord! Should I pick up or should I not? I debated for a few seconds and finally picked it up.
I didn't have the time to greet him when he dropped the bomb on me and hung up. He didn't give me enough time to convince him. Shit! What should I do now? When one problem was over now another one cropped up.
All my motivation and energy completely drained out. With a gloomy face, I left the house and hired and walked to the office. Now, I couldn't even afford hiring a cab. I had to save for another house. Damn it. All this way, I kept thinking where will I obtain a shelter?! My landlord just told me to pack my bags and leave in forty eight hours. How will that be possible? He didn't even let me leave until I had another home. But I wonder what caused him to react this way?
"Ava."
"Ava."
"Avaaaaa." I snapped out of my thoughts when I saw Mia waving her hands in front of me.
"I'm so sorry. I was caught up in my thoughts." I replied apologetically.
"Dude, I've been calling you for five long minutes." She said incredulously. "What's wrong? Is everything okay?" She asked, concern written all over her face. Right now, all I wanted to do was hug her and cry my heart out. I bit my lips to refrain myself from crying but persistent tears made their way out of my eyes. "Hey, hey, it's okay. It's fine." She wrapped her arms around me and rocked my back. I should thank God no one was here. Not even my boss. "Did anyone break your heart?" I shook my head against her. "Um, did someone rob you?" I again shook my head. "Did someone steal your food?" I had to laugh at the possiblilty she was giving me.
I moved away from her embrace and wiped my tears. "No, no one stole my food." I chuckled.
"So, what happened? Boyfriend issues?" She enquired.
"My, my landlord just threw me out of my house. He gave me a deadline of forty eight hours and I don't know where to go." And I started crying again.
"Oh, sweetie." Mia hugged me. "That's it? You're crying over such a petty issue." She chuckled making me look at her surprised.
"Petty issue?" I repeated disbelievingly. "I don't have a place to live in." My voice broke.
"You do, sweetie." Mia smiled at me.
"Huh?"
"As from today, you'll be staying at my place." Mia said, surprising me.
"Wh-what?" I didn't know how to react. Should I jump of happiness or should I cry out of joy.
"Yes. I have a pretty big apartment and I live alone. So you're most welcomed to share it with me." She gently said.
"But, you've just known me." I said unable to understand why would she help me.
"It's not about who you've known for the longest time but about how I see you." Mia told me. "You're a nice girl Ava with no hidden agendas and trust me, I would have known if you had a nasty character. So helping you would be a privilege." She wiped the tears from my face.
"I don't know what to say." I genuinely told her.
"You don't have to say anything, just make me some coffee." Mia said, making me laugh.
"Sure and thank you, Mia." I hugged her once again.
"No thank you, roomie." Mia winked and walked to her work station. I then got to the kitchen and prepared two cups of coffee, one for the Arrogant Ass and one for Mia.
I walked to Mia and gave her her coffee. She gestured towards the Arrogant Ass' office signalling me that he's here. Great!
I walked towards the office and knocked on it. After he said come it, I entered and put his coffee on his table. I was about to leave when his voice stopped me.
"What happened to your eyes?" He asked staring coldly at my eyes, stunning me. I glanced at him. He looked very handsome with the sleeves of his shirt rolled up to his arm.
"N-nothing." I quickly blurted. Why does he care anyways?!
"It's red." He stated as if he was talking about the weather.
"I-I, um, a mosquito bit me." I hastily said and then realized what I just said. He raised an eyebrow at me making me look at my sandals.
"Whatever it is, fix it quickly. We'll have a meeting soon and I want you to look presentable not like a mad woman." Arrogant Ass hissed angrily. Oh, that was the reason he was asking about my eyes.
"Yes, Sir." I responded.
"Now, get out." He snapped at me making me inwardly roll my eyes at him.
I walked out of his office with a glare on my face. Mia made a psst sound drawing my attention on her.
"Guess what?" Mia seemed like she wanted to jump from her seat.
"What?" I replied uninterested.
"Antonio DeLucas is coming today." Mia nearly squealed making me even more confused.
"Antonio, who?" I asked clearly puzzled.
"DeLucas." Mia repeated. "He's Mr.Salvestro's competitor. I just came to know that they will be having a meeting today." She explained. "And guess what?" Mia loves to make people guess.
"What?"
"He is super hot. And he is a ladies' man." She exclaimed happily. "I can't wait to see him. Hey, if you'll be with him in the meeting, try to take some pictures for me, please." Mia gave me the puppy eyes making me laugh at her.
"Um, I'll try." I chuckled at her childishness. With that, I went back to my office. I'm sure today will be a very long day.
