"Why the hell do you look better than me?" Sara asks walking towards me. "Because I just do." She nods, "so where's your date? I saw you talking to Nick." I lean onto a table, "no, I...I decided I needed to be on my own." Sara laughs, "even I know that's a lie. You haven't been alone. Or let anything stop you yet...from winning over the love of your life."

"Why do you care so much if I'm with Nick or not?" I asked crossing my arms. " Oh I don't...I'm just tired of pretending I love him, I was in love with the thought of him...and I've been lying to him...and I'm not helping you I'm helping him."

I unfold my arms, "oh."

"Yea, I have a confession, two actually one of which I can't tell you." I stand up intrigued. She sighs, "Jake was gonna ask you out and I stopped him because I secretly believe in Nick and Aria. Your love for Jackson is so forbidden but so beautiful to tell. Toxic but beautiful." She says.
I shake my head. "I'm sorry, am I talking to the same Sara I first met?" She laughs, "well when you have a kid you grow a little soft."

"What are you two talking about?" Nick asks standing behind us. "Nothing." He nods, "I hope it's not about me." He jokes. "That'll be the day." I turn to him. "Hey Sara, remember that time when You exposed Nick for not telling me about Derek and how Nick paid him to go out with me? Yea that was some pretty good times."

He sighs, ahem. "Ladies, gentleman, this is a dance, so dance." Our principal says. "Oh yes...of course. I'll go. Nick, we'll talk later." Sara walks away. Nick lends out a hand in annoyance. I stare at it for a moment. It brings back so many heartbreaking memories. "It's only right." My hand slowly slides into his gentle hand and he whisks me away onto the dance floor. He takes the other and places it above my waist. "I'm sorry," I whisper as I meet his gaze. He pretends to listen. "Just shut up and dance." He pulls me out and reels me back in. "Sounds like you hate me as much as I hate you." He shrugs as I collide with his chest. "It does? Oh, I didn't notice." He sarcastically mumbles. I lean towards his ear, "sounds like the beginning of a love story Romeo." I whisper. He looks down at me, "that's....my thing...I only say."- I smile, "well now it's ours." He smirks, "Buttercup." I step back. "I thought you didn't like that name."

"It suits you." He shrugs, "and I understand if you want to be with Jake."

"Okay, but are you sure? But seriously I think I need a break, this time it wouldn't be fair to you guys or Vanessa." He smiles, "you're a cool girl, you know that right?" I shrug, "I had a carefree guy to show me how to be cool again."

"Who Jake?" I shake my head. "No, you." I laugh. We turn to the announcer. "Time to announce the prom king and queen."

He smirks, "I get a feeling that it's going to be you." I roll my eyes. "Highly doubt that I wasn't on the ballot." He smiles, "and the prom queen is."-

"Aria Tyler." He leans towards my ear. "Looks like you are." I laugh, "thanks, Romeo." My hand slips away from his hand and I step up to the stage. "You let her win?" Sara asks Jake, "yea." He smirks, "why would you do that?" Jake turns to me, "because I... She deserves better. And if making her happy and seeing her happy makes me happy."

After prom ended I made my way out of the ballroom. "You're so lucky Aria. Congrats on your win." One random girl spoke out. "Thanks." I smile. "Hey...Aria. You need a ride home?" I shake my head. "No, I drove here. Thanks, strange guy for asking."

I laugh before walking away. I approach my car undoubtedly waiting for the lies to catch up to me. "Congratulations on winning."
Vanessa snarls. "Hey, how are you?" Tucking my bang behind my ear I smile. "Oh no I wasn't being nice I was being petty. Surely you wouldn't have known because you were to busy stabbing me in the back."

"Look I'm sorry for kissing Jake but we didn't."-

"I don't want you to contact me anymore. After school ends I hope to never see you again, you hear me? Because I'm done living in your shadow." I nod, "good because if I do I'll make sure to ruin whatever little happiness you ever have, Jake was right you are a problem."

I take off my crown gently starring at it. Abruptly thinking. "Aria."

"What now?" I turn, "oh...Jake hi."

"Congrats on winning prom queen." I smile, "thanks, I didn't see you all night. I was hoping I could've gotten a dance out of you." I walk forward.

"You and Nick...are uh okay?" I nod, "we've decided on space and being fair. Fair I mean I can't be with you just yet."

"Is that what you want?"

"At this point, I don't...know." I open my car door. "But I know for fact you'll forget about me. Everyone does. See you soon."

The next few weeks I spent my time in the library trying to study for exams. "Aria." I drop my notebook and look up. "Sara?"

"Don't get used to this, I'm just bored and I happened to wander in here to see you...all alone."- I nod, "you've told me this already."

"Yea I know, I need to come clean because I've been having this on my chest for a while now, but you're better than me. why do you think I was so jealous of you?" I shrug, "wait...you were."-

"Don't push it." I raise my hands up. "Sorry, but how's Arron?" She sighs, "he's fine." I smile, "great...look I have to go. See you later."

I take my notebook and scurry off at the sight of Vanessa, she approaches Sara. "Wow, I haven't seen Aria so scared in my life what did you do?"

"That bitch kissed my ex after she had told me she had no interest in him. And she gave up on Nick." Sara sighs, "he did the same to her."

"Who cares? You blackmailed him. And is that baby of yours making you soft?" Sara frowns, "you're a bitch. And I didn't blackmail him...he was protecting her." Sara gets up and walks away.

"Sara."

"Jake?"

"Is Aria in there?" Sara shakes her head. "No Vanessa chased her off and Vanessa is really upset at you two what were you thinking? Falling for your friend's girl?" Sara questions him with reason. "I didn't attend on doing it, just happened and I guess I wanted it to happen because I was getting back at Vanessa a bit." Sara sighs, "so are you saying your feelings were never real?" He nods, "no I...yes."

"So it was all a lie?" Jake turns to face me. "Aria I."-

"No, it's fine. It's my fault I've should've known so whatever you think I want to hear, don't say it at all." I spat before backing up slowly, disappearing into the halls.
