Suzaku stepped onto the gravel path outside and walked around with thegroup of survivors following behind. The young man ruffled his brown jacket and turned to his new friends.
"So this is our little town, most of these are just houses," he told them with a large grin stretched across his face. He turned back around and began showing them the houses, walking around.
"He seems excited," Kevin whispered to Bryce.
"Yeah, I think he thinks we're his best friends now," Bryce replied.
Tiffany walked a bit faster to catch up to Suzaku. She looked at his shaggy blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He was much more attractive than the other villagers. She couldn't help but to ask about it.
"You are the best looking person here," Tiffany told him. "Everyone else looks the same."
Suzaku blushed. "Yes, my grandfather and I are not originally from here."
"Well how did you get here?"
Suzaku stopped by a chicken coop and began collecting the eggs. He threw one, but nothing came out of it. He then threw another, and this time a baby chicken hatched from it and began to run around like crazy.
"My parents weren't that great for me as a kid," he said, stepping out of the coop and locking the fence behind him.
"Why not?" Noah asked.
"Well they were just bad people. My father was abusive and my mother was an alcoholic. They always ignored me and would never feed me. When my grandfather found out, he took me with him to run away on a boat, to start over on a new land.
"When we landed on the island, we were terrified from all of the monsters. However, there was nowhere else for us to go. Fortunately for us, we found a small village with other people. So we just settled in and helped develop the town."
Tiffany smiled. She admire the young man's determination.
"Well what about the monsters?" Kevin asked. "They're everywhere and we know nothing about them."
"I believe there is a book about them in the library. The teachers use it to teach the children about what they should look out for," Suzaku told them. "Follow me."
Everyone walked silently to the library. When they arrived, Suzaku walked up to the front desk.
"Hey, Jim," he told the librarian. Jim simply nodded, and everyone spread out around the ginormous library.
"So many books," Kevin whispered. He circled around the room several times in amazement. He had always loved books but never got the chance to check any out, for there wasn't a library in his own town back home.
Noah walked around, looking for any book that could tell him about the monsters. Chassy and Bryce walked together, holding hands, and Tiffany followed Suzaku around.
"Ah, here it is!" Suzaku said happily. He pulled and old hardback book from the shelf and shook the dust off of it. He casually walked to the checkout desk and handed the book and his card to the librarian. He checked Suzaku's card, then handed it back to him.
Suzaku led the group back to the doctors office, where Haley had gotten her stitches.
"Are you alright?" Noah asked Haley. The girl nodded, wiping tears from her eyes. It had to have hurt.
Dr. Hundsburg took the book from Suzaku, then opened it and flipped through the old scratchy pages. He showed the group all of the monsters there were on the island, their hostility, and how to avoid them and kill them. It frightened them all.
"And finally, this is the skeleton," the old man explained. "It carries around a bow and infinate supply of arrows. Mind that it has great aim and will shoot you if it spots you. The best way to kill it would be to shoot it with your own bow and arrows. Otherwise, if you go after it with a sword, it will just shoot you before you can reach it."
He closed the book and stood up. He shook Haley'd hand, then walked off. Noah helped Haley up, then gave her another hug. Suzaku jumped out of his seat.
"Well, I suppose we out to be getting home," he said. "It will be getting dark soon." He led the group to his house, where he lived all alone, besides his pet dog.
"This is Riley, my dog." he told them all. "I do not have enough beds for all of you but don't worry! I will make some!" He ran over to his building table and began nailing wood together and throwing wool on top, creating six brand new, soft, comfortable beds. He set them down in a row.
"Wow, thanks!" Tiffany said to him, twirling her blonde hair around her finger.
They all slept well that night, happy for finding a new safe place to live for now.
