The others were equally dirty on the ground. The only one standing was the Ranger facing the castle that was invisible outside the fog. He cut the leather attached to a tree. The others were panting heavily.
"Are we safe?" Edith asked.
Her answer was an ear shattering roar. They all got their feet. Lance looked at the Ranger who was still facing the castle, unaffected by the noise.
"He will not follow us out here" the Ranger said, "but we should go"
The Ranger walked off and the others followed.
"what did you do to make him mad like that? Why didn't you follow us in?" Lance asked.
"He didn't want him there" Nyam said, "He doesn't like birds, specifically falcons."
"He kept saying 'I know that song' but I didn't hear anything" Morn said.
"I'm more interested in how the hell we just so happened to get to the roof and there was a random rope sturdy enough to carry all of us out." Edith said.
"all I know is that after that I can believe anything" Tyler said.
"Never mind about all of that. We still failed. We didn't get a weapon or key or whatever the hell, we hardly have any supplies and who knows how far away we are from any town" Lance said.
"We didn't need a key" Nyam said holding up the necklace with the red jewel.
"And I think we'll be fine on supplies" Tyler said.
All of them looked at him. They didn't notice his satchel was replaced, he was wearing more than one. He stopped. He pulled a satchel around, each one of his fingers sparkled with jewels, he wore layers of silver around his neck. He opened the satchel and inside were neat pouches. A kit for making fire, rope, a small hunting bow with many arrows, traps. Even some of the armor they had all gawked at. There were detailed old maps, two compasses, oil, a small tent and blanket, a fancy water container and food. Dried meat, cheese and bread.
"You got all that and you still have this thing" Morn lifted Tyler's old pot, the handle was tied to the bags.
Tyler back away from Morn's hand. "Don't dis the pot"
"Tyler you've probably just saved us all" Lance said.
Tyler bowed. "I try"
"Yea well you still scream like a girl" Edith said.
They all started at her a little shocked. She punched Tyler in the shoulder "What?" He laughed nervously and rubbed where she punched him.
"Nyam, you really must tell us what all that was about. Start from the beginning."
Nyam retold the story of the Mad King as best as he could explain it.
"his mind was really quite a mess. But he was able to recognize me in his dream, he even knew he was sleeping. First he asked me if I was spying on him, but it didn't take much for me to convince him I wasn't. Something about my skin.
Tyler stopped and choked.
Nyam looked at him concerned but Tyler said squeakily "Continue"
"Then he took me through his castle and showed me all of the tricks. When I asked him about his kingdom it was always something different. First he said it was still growing and flourishing, and then he said there was a terrible fire that burned away his whole kingdom and the sea came in into stop it drowning his people."
