They traveled through the day and when the light faded once more the Ranger stopped and they dismounted. The Ranger went in a faster pace but never jumped too far ahead of them.
"we're going to reach wild territory soon. Keep a watch from traps and thieves. Don't ever stray too far" The Ranger said.
They made camp, Bitter fell asleep as soon as her head touched her crossed paws. Morn stoked her back and put water beside her.
"maybe we should start keeping watch" Lance said.
"that wont be necessary" The Ranger practically whispered.
"why don't you ever-" before Lance could finish the Ranger was already gone. He held up his hand and his bird flew to it.
Tyler had brought out his instrument and began singing a soft song.
"one by one out to sea
Different water they tread loyally
But I do not see for I am small
The tide is lost forever more
The wind it howls, it blows them away
They sing their songs and lie through the bay."
When Tyler was finished there was silence until he broke it.
"you know I don't seem to remember you both ever saying how you're related."
"I told you, we share the same mother" Lance said.
"I mean the details" Tyler said.
"Why, we've told you everything" Lance said.
"But that's the thing, I really don't think you have. See I can't get this story out of my head."
"What story is that?" Edith asked.
"It's a Havenhall story about a terrible king, who chose the most beautiful of his subjects to be his bride but she did not want to be his Queen. He was a rough man that locked her away and only allowed her freedom if she did as he wished and let him into her bed. He was cruel to her as you can imagine but she prayed every day that the light, and true path of the Lord would save her. So by the grace of light she miraculously escaped to Havenhall where she met a handsome man who turned out to be the very king. He was willing to give up his own birth right for the women and although his father did not approve she was having the kings child and it was a boy. The old king died and the new king of Havenhall married her with the popularity of the people. Although some believe the new prince's blood is not of pure nature, they cannot argue with the new kings orders blah blah blah, I've told this story so many times I can't even tell it in a good way" Tyler said.
Lance shrugged.
"Never heard it"
"I think I've heard this story too" Edith said. "But it doesn't mention the queen having a son with the king of Viendenfal"
"They leave the bastards out" Morn said quietly.
Everyone but Morn stopped their horses dead in their tracks. Morn continued casually. He looked back at the others who were stopped and staring at him in shock.
"It's not such a revelation is it?"
Tyler spoke first "I knew it! You're a prince!"
"Not me, my mother was never married to the king of Veindenfal"
Tyler turned to Lance "so you're the prince?!"
Lance's face was pink but not from embarrassment. He was angry, so much so he couldn't even look Morn in the eyes.
