After Simone had wrapped her toe he started cleaning the rest of her. Tyler came back to them looking queezy.
"I'm sorry I just couldn't" Tyler said.
None of them really paid attention Lance and Morn were breathing heavily. Simone didn't stop there. He wet one of his rags and started from Edith's head washed her, pouring water over her skin. The water reveled many scrapes and bruises. A large lump was forming on her head. Simone carefully washed all the filth away. Her hair was a tangled uneven mess. A lot of it was gone from where it had fallen into the acid. The ends were frayed and the braid was undone. They all quietly wondered just how long she was in the well and just how close she was to being killed by it.
"Do you think we should cut it?" Tyler asked. He sniffled back his tears.
"I don't know, I think there is something against cutting hair in Balthazon" Lance said.
"To hell with that, just look at it." Morn said. He held up the end of the hair. Half of the braid was being held up by the tangles. He took out his knife and began cutting away at the frayed ends. By the time he was done her hair was still uneven.
"Let me" Tyler said.
He slowly measured with his fingers each strand and cut them away.
"You do this a lot better than you do your own hair" Morn said.
"Its easier on someone else's hair. I used to practice on my- " Tylers sentence got caught in his throat.
Lance and Morn exchanged sad glances then changed the subject, "I suppose it's easier with scissors"
Tyler nodded.
"I hope she didn't hurt her dominant hand" Lance said.
"I don't think she has one" Morn concluded. "She does wield two swords."
"true, that's quiet a skill. The dual sword is a lost art in Havenhall. We find shield's more practical. I'd think a Balthazon would use them since they can't rely so much on strength"
They didn't realize Edith was awake, she opened her eyes and moved her mouth but nothing came out. She pounded her fist lightly on the ground in dazed frustration then gave up.
"sorry" Lance said.
"Edith open you're mouth" Simone instructed. Edith slowly tilted her head sideways on Tyler's lap. When the words registered in her mind she opened her mouth and Simone looked inside. He couldn't tell what was wrong. Edith snapped back to consciousness. She reached her good arm up to Tyler who was just finishing cutting. She tried getting up but her head felt like a million kilos.
Simone and Tyler helped her to a sitting position. She rocked forward and they held her up.
"you cut my hair" She mouthed reaching behind her. She poked Lance with her finger.
"Wasn't me" Lance said. Edith faded out of consciousness again.
"What the hell did you give her?" Morn asked.
"it's a remedy I invented. Its derived from the poppy plant but its more potinant, it will help with the pain but it makes you very loopy. Some people have different effect, some people can't handle it. I'm surprised she's still awake. I only use it in extreme cases." Simone said.
"Do you know what's wrong with her throat?" Lance asked.
Simone felt it. Edith's face cringed and she lazily swatted his hand away.
