I ran home knowing that he would be there when I arrived. I was so excited because we were finally going to run away together.
My bags were packed and stashed in his car. I was just running home to say goodbye to my little sister.
But when I got there, everything changed. I saw my dad's car parked outside and I rushed in because I knew something was wrong. He wasn't supposed to get home until 5:30 and it was only 3:23.
I sprinted to the backyard to find Luke standing there with my dad holding neck, not allowing him to breathe.
"Daddy, NO! Stop please!"
"I'm sorry sweetheart, but I can't allow you to run off with the scum."
"But I love him!"
Bang.
I fell to the ground in shock and instinctively my hand flew to my stomach. I drew it back to see it was covered in blood.
My own father had shot me.
"I knew you'd never stop loving him. Even if I killed him and you'd never forgive me. So I'm very sorry, baby girl."
"I am not your baby girl. Not anymore. We were family. Past tense." I croaked.
Then Luke ran to me and cradled my head.
"I called 911. They're on their way. Please just stay awake until then. I can't lose you. Just keep your eyes open. Please." He sobbed.
I brought my hand to his face and smiled. Happy that if this was when I was gonna go out at least the last thing I would see was his beautiful face.
Then I closed my eyes, never to open them again.
