Depressing One Shots

Salty Water

"Yeah, I have a plan," said Cynthia.

"Is it a good one?" asked Fred.

"I have a plan," she said sheepishly.

"Cyn, Ann will never let you go if it's not good," he scolded.

"Come on, Freddy! She will if you come with me. We all know little-miss-high-and-mighty would do anything for her knight-in-half-washed-thrift-store-clothing," Cynthia teased.

"Shut up!" He said as he threw her over his shoulder and started running toward the water.

"No no no no no no no! Put me down! Not the ocean! Freddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!" she screamed as she landed with a splash in the salty water.

"Haha! Got you!" he laughed.

"If you had a bit less muscle and height, you would be the one in the water and you know it," she said while sticking her tongue out, "anyway what's one night in the city?"

"Listen, if Ann doesn't think you're ready to leave yet, then you're not ready."

"Since when are you on her side? What happened to our plans for the perfect night out? You said you had something to show me."

"Things change."

"Like what? Nothing's changed except my release date which keeps getting delayed over and over."

Silence. Fred didn't answer, but he didn't have to. Cynthia could see it in his eyes.

"REALLY! HER! Oh my god." She yelled, tears forming in her eyes.

"Listen, Cyn, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to. It just kind of happened."

"No. First, you lost the right to call me that and second those things don't just happen. Leave! Now. You know what, stay. I'll go." She said wiping her tears.

"Where are you going? This place isn't that big."

"I know. I'm leaving here. In general. Because I've decided that I'm ready. Don't come looking for me."

And with that she turned her head, went back to her room, gathered her belongings, and left.

Fred wasn't the only one who didn't know where she was going. She didn't know either. She just got in a taxi and told them to drive.

You know I'm curious to learn where she would've ended up, if only the driver had seen the incoming SUV.
