Chapter 12 •For The First Time In Forever•
I stood there shocked and rooted to my spot. Seeing Brooke didn’t bother me since we were on good terms now but seeing her and Daniel together, knowing exactly what they did to Faith had me glaring.
“Gabe.” Evie said softly placing a hand on my shoulder “What were you going to say?”
I ignored her question. I couldn’t find it in me to speak anymore. I didn’t want to believe that Daniel and Brooke were here to stay but the odds of them being here just for fun weren’t accurate. I already knew Daniel went to school here, he had won one of the scholarships for football but I had no idea if Brooke came here.
Evie seemed to catch on that something was obviously distracting me. She turned her head in the same direction as me, her eyes had settled on Daniel and Brooke who were now seated on a bench together. I could see the clear confusion in her eyes, she had no idea why I was looking in their direction but I did.
“Is she an ex girlfriend or something?” She asked me curiously.
I shook my head “No. Tori was the only girl I’ve ever asked to be my girlfriend.” Evie looked at me while I spoke. “That’s Brooke and the guy is Daniel, they used to be my best friends. Back in high school we all used to hang out with Carter and Faith. Daniel and Faith were dating then but then one night at a party Faith ended up sleeping with Carter.”
“Oh no.” Evie mumbled.
I nodded “As it turns out Daniel had been cheating on Faith with Brooke for awhile.” I decided not to tell Evie the full story involving Brooke’s crush on me. It wasn’t something she needed to know and it wasn’t something I wanted to share.
“Wow.” She mouthed “So I’m guessing you aren’t too fond of the two.”
I shrugged “Brooke is okay now I guess. She apologized and everything, I just don’t see why she would be with Daniel now. I thought she was done with him.”
Evie sighed “Maybe you should go talk to them.”
I shook my head while I continued to watch Daniel and Brooke laugh together. “That’s the last thing I want. I need to talk to Faith first; this affects her more than it does affect me.”
Both Evie and I walked back into the café. I made sure that Brooke and Daniel didn’t see me, the last thing I needed was for them to try to talk to me right this moment. I already had a lot on my plate and with the way I was feeling just a few seconds ago before I saw Daniel and Brooke I knew that it was something I was going to have to overcome.
When we made it back to the table, a waitress had just placed down all of the drinks. “You guys are back?” Faith asked while we approached.
I sighed “Faith there’s something I have to tell you.”
I watched as Faith’s eyes hardened. She had noticed the serious look on my face, whenever I was serious Faith had hated it. It was only because I had been always so depressed and serious once Tori had died. I could tell my tone annoyed Faith but she nodded her head silently waiting for me to lay it on her.
“Daniel and Brooke are here.”
I watched as the look on Faith’s face shattered into utter sadness. “They’re here? Together?” There was no doubt that Faith was still hurting from the fact that her ex boyfriend and ex best friend had betrayed her.
Faith really did love Daniel, though she loves Carter now the hurt was still there. She had known Brooke for so many years too. When they had broke off communication it was weird, I was so used to them being together.
