Chapter 14 •Evie’s POV•
Walking down the halls this morning was defiantly not something I was too keen on doing. Art class this morning would wake me up for sure but as of right now I felt like sleeping on the floor, not even caring if someone were to step on me.
As soon as I turned the corner and entered the Art classroom I noticed Gabe sitting in his seat. We hadn’t talked much since the day I met Brooke and Daniel. Gabe had been spending a lot of time with Carter and Faith which I had absolutely no problem with because they were friends with him before I ever was, the only thing was that I felt like he may have been avoiding me.
Gabe was going to tell me something right before Brooke and Daniel showed up. It’s been bugging me ever since, it’s been days since it’s happened but it has never left my mind.
That’s not the only thing that has been bugging me. Jason has been spending a bit too much time with other girls lately and Rebecca has been coming back from the studying sessions with him pissed off. I didn’t know what was going on between those two but I needed to find out so that things could be fixed.
I took my seat next to Gabe and got out my books. I didn’t know what to say to him so I simply occupied myself by pretending to look for my sketch pencils. “Hey.” He said once I pulled my pencil case out of my bag after passing it through my bag many times to by more time for the bell to ring.
My head turned to the side to look at Gabe. I gave him a smile and placed my pencil case on the table. “How are you?” Gabe asked me curiously.
Sighing deeply I shrugged “I’m fine, how are you?”
“I’m doing well.” He replied before he ran a hand through his hair “Listen Evie I-“
“Mr. Williams is here.” I cut him off while turning to face the front. I knew it was a mean thing to do but I didn’t want to hear his true excuse for avoiding me.
I heard Gabe sigh beside me but he never spoke to me again. The class went by smoothly with a few drawing exercises and landscape sketches. By the time class was over Mr. Williams was ready to give us a new assignment.
“Alright class, listen up!” He yelled to get out class’ attention. Everyone looked up from their sketches and looked at Mr. Williams, I quickly finished up a tree I was drawing in my landscape drawing before giving the teacher my full attention.
Mr. Williams made sure that he had the full class’ attention before he began to explain our new assignment. “I want you to draw a portrait of the person next to you and hand it in by tomorrow. It has to be a unique portrait showing off this person’s personality traits.” He held up the paper we needed to use and sighed as the bell rang “That would be all.”
I looked over at Gabe and sighed “I guess were partners. I’ll come by your dorm later on so we can work on this.” I grabbed my bag and stood up to leave but he caught me by the elbow and held me back from leaving.
“Evie what’s going on?” Gabe asked as he moved to stand in front of me “You’ve been acting different.”
I scoffed “Me? Gabe you’ve been avoiding me all week. Ever since Brooke and Carter showed up you’ve been avoiding me.”
He looked down and sighed while rubbing the back of his neck “I told you, I’ve been spending some time with Faith and Carter.”
“Don’t give me that bullshit.” I muttered under my breath “I know you’ve been hanging out with them but what about Saturday when you were totally free, I asked to hang out and you said no.”
