Chapter 13 •Man To Man Time•
It had been three weeks since the incident with Daniel and Brooke at the café. Since then I have never seen nor spoken a word to them, Carter had to see Daniel everyday for football practice but he told me that they never spoke.
Things were truly finished between us all. Faith seemed to be doing much better after Evie had given her that pep talk. I admired how Evie could get literally anyone to open up to her without even fully trying. She had done it with me even when I had sworn I would never open up to anyone ever.
“Okay that’s it.” Carter bellowed as he entered the dorm room. I jumped slightly, classes had only just ended and usually I would be alone for at least five minutes before Jason and Carter would come.
“What’s it?” I asked curiously.
Carter smirked at he looked over at me “You, me, football game over at the Sports Kit Center.”
I chuckled while I pulled on my shoes “And why is that exactly?”
He simply shrugged “I’ve noticed we haven’t spent much guy time together, so I decided today we ditch the girls and just hang out. Just you and me, man to man time. Besides just because you decided to go all artsy on me and quit playing football does not mean we can’t watch the game.”
I smiled while nodding my head “You’re on then. And if we’re going to a game we might as well wear some football jerseys.” I grabbed two jerseys from inside the closet and threw one towards Carter.
He smiled and quickly pulled it on. I did the same before we both left the room.

At the football game the stands were filled with people. Carter and I were lucky enough to get some seats near the action. It was almost at halftime and the team we were cheering for was currently behind by two points.
The Sports Kit Center was great because you could always come watch one game for free each week. When the team we were cheering for got a touchdown tying the game at halftime Carter and I were up and out of our seats cheering.
“YES! TOUCHDOWN!” Carter yelled out.
I chuckled “It’s nice doing this again with you.”
Carter sighed as we both sat back down. “Gabe I’m really sorry. Our lack of hanging out was mainly my fault. When I started dating Faith I spent a lot of time with her, I didn’t realize until now how much time we haven’t spent together, just you and me.”
I ran a hand through my hair while sighing too “Carter it’s not your fault. I spent a lot of time with Tori when she was alive too.”
“It was different.” He mumbled “Tori was sick, you had a reason to want to spend so much time with her.”
I sucked in a deep breath. In this moment I didn’t want to talk about Tori, I just wanted to focus on the football game and try to enjoy my time with Carter.
I could feel the panic just sitting on the edge of my stomach. If Carter said anymore things that I didn’t want to hear, I’d have a panic attack for sure.
Just before Carter could say another word my phone began to ring. I looked down at the caller ID and sighed “It’s Katie. I have to take this.”
Carter nodded while I stood up and moved towards and location where there wasn’t much sound. II clicked answer “Hello?”
“Hey Gabe!” My annoying little sister Katie screamed into the phone, only this time I had to thank her. She saved me from a conversation I really didn’t want to have at the moment.
