October 2013

For the rest of the month the news wouldn't stop talking about Laelynn. Everyone was feeding off of that one interview they gave and made useless articles about what they said, what they didn't say, or even their body languages. It was a known consequences. But Kristen had a hard time dealing with this, so she closed herself off the real world.

She avoided talking about it to anyone who brought it up, whether it was her team or her friends and family. To her, if she didn't know about it, it meant it wasn't happening. Unfortunately that reaction didn't dwell well with Robert. He thought they were done hiding in their house. In no way did he want to go out and show off. But even a simple walk in their neighbourhood took him days to make it happen. And even then, Kristen was paranoid and too careful to enjoy it and see the bright, happy face of Laelynn enjoying their family outing.

One night, Kristen's friends invited themselves over their house for dinner. When she opened the door, she was annoyed to see them but she still welcomed them. They were all joyful, and Kristen only offered them tight smiles. Since they were there, she had the opportunity to cook a real dinner. It would change from the baby food. But also a chance to get away from them and lost herself in her element.

"How are you doing Kris?" That was Suzie coming in the kitchen, and starting her inquisition about her best friend well being.

"All good." She waved her hand around. "You know tired with Laelynn starting to do her teeth." She smiled and went back to cutting vegetables.

"She's a real sunshine." Suzie loved dotting on her goddaughter. This time Kristen chuckled and it was sincere. "Where's Rob?" She wondered. And when she saw Kristen's shoulders tensed up, she knew. She knew something was wrong.

"He's with some of his friends." Again with her fake smile.

"Are you guys okay?" She asked gently, moving closer to Kristen.

"Everything's fine." Her answer was stone cold. Done with her cutting she threw the vegetables in the water. Suzie stayed silent and watched her moving around in her kitchen. Until she heard her cursed and put her finger in her apron. She didn't even make two steps that Kristen once again harshly talked to her. "I'm fine." And she left to go in her bathroom upstairs.

Suzie had no idea what was wrong with her, nor how long she had been that way. But seeing her like this worried her. Following her instinct she walked upstairs too. The door was ajar and she could hear Kristen cry. It broke her heart. Not hesitating, Suzie stepped inside taking Kristen in her arms. She soothed her moving from side to side and stroking her hair. No words were needed for the moment. Kristen needed comfort, a shoulder to lean on. That's what Suzie wanted to be for her. Whatever burden she wanted to share she was willing to take it.

Kristen slowly moved back from Suzi's arms, drying her tears with the back of her hands. Glancing at her reflection made her whimper and ready to break down. She was a real mess. Red puffy eyes. Snotty nose. And she was shaking from the high emotions she went through.

"Here." A glass of water appeared in front of her. Thanking Suzie she drank it quickly. "Are you feeling better?" She asked softly and took away the glass from Kristen's hand.

"I'm sorry."

Suzie shook her head. "Don't. I'm here for you honey. Did you hurt your finger?" She asked remembering the reason she left. Looking down she saw a red dot on her finger, so she looked for band aid then applied it on her.

"Thanks."

"I'm worried about you, Kristen." Suzie started off. "Everything seemed fine when I visited you in Europe. And now you're hiding in your house. No one sees you or hears from you. What's happening?"
