"I'll be back in a few, mom! Just need to deliver these apples to grandma!" I shouted as I put up my red hood.

"Alright, (Y/N). Oh! Sweetie, if your grandmother makes apple pie, would be so kind is to ask her if she could save a slice for me?" My mom giggled, going down the stairs of our cozy cottage located in the woods.

"Okay! See ya!" I walked out of the house and towards my grandma's house that was relatively close to us and easy to get to.

Breathing in the crispy morning breeze, I started to walk to grandma's place.

I was walking along the path, enjoying the bright sun's morning rays as it shone down on the woods, it was a cloudless day today, which made it easier for the sun to shine without any coverage, apart from the trees' leaves that is; sweet silence filled the woods, which was rather strange, as small animals would chirp, bark, yap, and so on, so for it to be silent like this - something was wrong.

But I didn't take note of it.

I was only thinking about the delicious pie grandma was going to make when I got there with her apples.

But once I did, I stopped and looked around - to see if I could spot any sign of life apart from flora.

Even more strange, there wasn't any, only massive trees and shrubbery that undulated with the wind.

It was pretty terrifying when I realised.

A growl echoed through the woods, sounding from a creature I've never encountered before. I've seen foxes, hares, birds, owls; but I've never heard an animal that had a growl so deep.

The growling continued, but now I could actually pinpoint is to where is was.

Guess where? Behind me.

Fearful for my life, I slowly turned to be face-to-face with an oversized dog that was my height - probably a little taller. The dog was a shiny black colour and it's fur seemed well kept, for a wild animal, it's eyes were a sparkling ruby red. Those eyes were the most horrific, yet dazzling eyes I'd ever seen, they were pulling me into some sort of trance.

The creature and I stared at each other for a few seconds, as if contemplating to do next.

"What are you doing so deep in the woods?" A male voice calmly called out.

"Huh? Who's there?" I responded in confusion, however the voice didn't respond back.

"I asked you a question." The voice once again spoke.

Confusion was running through my brain. Where was this voice? What is this animal? Where did it come from?

"I-I'm delivering a-apples to my grandma." I replied hesitantly, my eyes still fixated on the mysterious creature, just in case it tried to hurt me.

"It's dangerous being out here, all on your own." The voice deepened at the end, growling when it finished it's sentence.

The growl, however, was enough to give away who was talking.

"What that you?" I asked the creature in front of me.

"You've just noticed?" The voice sarcastically asked back.
