Chapter 29: Accidents Happen, We Just Have To Expect Them

It was the already March 12th, the day I would have to get up and  wave my ass.

No just kidding.

Today is pretty much just a normal and average day, or at least that's what I expect. The morning consisted of the usual routine. Getting late breakfast, devouring an entire bowl of Fruit Loops with Niall, playing FIFA with Alex and Pia, watching re-runs of How I Met Your Mother. Yeah that wasn't really the only thing I ever did on mornings.

It was already late in the afternoon by the time we finished the whole season of How I Met Your Mother. "Tomorrow, we're watching Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." Alex states while I lazily pull up my arm and throwing her a thumbs up.

"Unbelievable," Louis says once they enter our hotel room "You guys didn't bother to go to the concert just to watch TV? I'm hurt." He says dramatically, wiping a non-existent tear from his cheek. "Yes Lou, because we love you that much." I say sarcastically, tucking myself further into the sheets of the warm bed.

Alex gives a lazy grin and turns her attention back to the television. Niall sits beside me and I put my head on his shoulder, resting my body and easing it into his embrace. "Where's Pia?"  Zayn asks this time and Alex shrugs "I've no idea. She told me she was going to the convenient store across the street to grab herself a bottle of Gatorade. That girl and her weird cravings." Alex furrows her eyebrows slightly and chuckles.

"Well she better hurry. I'm starving." Niall is the one who says that, obviously and I giggle. Just then, the phone rings obnoxiously loud and Alex stands up -for the first time today- to answer it.

"Hello?. . .No, why? Did something happen?. . .Accident? When?. . .ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! IS SHE OKAY?!. . .NO I WILL NOT CALM DOWN!. . .Where is she?. . .Okay, I'm on my way."

Alex hangs up, worry and concern clouded her green eyes. By the time Alex shouted loudly, we all were panicking. "What happened?" I ask, concern flooding all over me. "That was the police," Alex says softly, like if she said another word she was going to break "They. . .Pia. . .she's hurt real bad. She got in an accident because some stupid driver decided to run her over and then go A-wall. What a dickhead! Do you guys think Pia is fine?" Alex ends her rant with a deep breath, probably trying to compose herself.

By the time she finished I was already up, leggings replaced shorts, flip-flops on my feet and an oversized sweater which I couldn't give two fucks about was already pulled over my head. I needed to know if Pia was safe.

Scrambling for the door, the seven of us made a run for it, not caring if we bumped by innocent individuals. Right now the only concern I'm affected by is whether or not Pia is in the ICU or in the ER. Whichever unit seemed equally terryifying to me.

The trip to the hospital wasn't short at all. I lifted my hair and pushed it in an effortless bun as Louis pulled up to the Brighton Medical Care Unit, we got out right away, breaking in a run to the receptionist.

"Where is she? Where the fuck is Pia?! I swear if nobody answers me this instant I will cut a bitch." Alex was fuming, the usual green in her eyes turned dark as if a thunder cloud had been casted overhead of her.

"Your friend is in the emergency room right now, you cannot enter. Please take a seat in the waiting area." the receptionist looked terrified and slightly intimidated by Alex who didn't even bother to acknowledge him, Alex growled in response and jogged to the waiting area to take a seat.

Alex sighs and puts her head in her hands, closing her eyes. I take a seat beside her and pat her shoulder reassuringly.

"Accidents happen, we just have to expect them." I say, close to tears. The mere thought of anyone I love getting hurt made me shudder. I couldn't think of a life without Pia, she was essential.

Alex let out a bitter laugh "God must really hate me. First he gives me crappy parents and now this," Alex shakes her head "he might as well kill me now." I frown at her, my eyebrows stitching together.

"Don't say that." I mutter softly, feeling sad and depressed.

"Excuse me?" I hear somebody say and Alex and I look up to a find a short and plump man with a balding head and a gray goatee, he was staring down at us with a raised eyebrow.

I stand up immediately but Alex doesn't even bother. "Good afternoon, doctor. I'm Anthea, a friend of Pia." I say politely, offering a small and crooked smile.

"Good afternoon as well miss Anthea. Your friend is doing well. Luckily the accident didn't have too much impact on her. But we'll need to keep her here for a few more examinations."

"How long is that going to take?"

"There's no telling how long our tests are going to take. At the most, it will last for a duration of maybe five weeks or so."

"That's quite long. How much is this going to cost?"

"It would depend on the kind of medication she'll need."

"Just please make sure she is safe and well."

"We will. You cannot see her today but we'll keep you posted on updates. Hopefully by tomorrow she'll be well enough for you to see her. She's in a coma right now but there aren't any major injuries with her. Just a few minor cuts and bruises, we'll fix them up in no time."

The doctor nods his head once and I crack a small smile in acknowledgement.

"God there are too many dickheads I wanna smash." Alex says I quietly.

"It's okay, she'll be fine." I say, reassuring myself more than anyone else.
