Preparing a marriage within a week was pretty hard. They all agreed that they needed some days to think, but they couldn't take too much time, because the Hallow was still on their heels, desperate to get the bones. Maybe it also knew what that marriage was about and they were in utter danger.
Amelia had to prepare most of the ceremony on her own. Elijah and Freya helped a bit, but the rest of the family refused to help. For the that tiny little time, Amelia was satisfied with the outcome. The compound was nicely decorated, white roses and orchids were everywhere, matching her bridal bouquet. She ordered food, drinks, musicians and of course an official. That was the hardest thing to get. They needed someone, an elder in specific, that could do a ritual that ancient and still had the rights to declare them husband and wife. The witches denied her, being a heretic made her a traitor and the Mikaelson's were their foes anyway. After doing a lot of begging they got Mary to do the ritual. Amelia assumed that the elderly woman just helped them because the marriage would put a final end to Elijah's and Hayley's relationship.
The heretic looked down to her hand. A beautiful, too expensive engagement ring was attached to her finger. It had a huge diamond in it, which caught the light of the setting sun in a fascinating way. Honestly, where did this man got his dashing taste?
He had proposed to her in a classical, but sweet way. The evening they had spoken about the marriage plans, he had taken her out for dinner and then, on the promenade on the shore of the Mississippi he bent on his knee and asked her to be his wife.
She smiled lightly and her eyes wandered to the wedding gown hanging in front of her. Suddenly, she got really nervous. She will get married in less than 2 hours. It frightened her. Shaking her head, she went outside the room, but stopped when she saw Elijah's bedroom door open. Amelia stood in the doorframe, watching how Elijah buttoned his shirt. Their eyes met in the mirror and the Original gave his fiancee a comforting smile.
"Are we really going to do this?"
Amelia clenched her hands into fists to stop them from shaking. Elijah chuckled and turned around to face her.
"It's ok, Amelia. I'm also nervous."
She couldn't help but smile. Her eyes had lowered and when she looked up again, he stood close by her.
"I somehow can't imagine you being nervous."
"A marriage is something pretty precious. Of course I'm...discomposed. When I was still a human I always thought about how it would be to be married."
Amelia looked away, hurt dwelling inside her.
"The woman you imagined to marry was my mother. I'm sorry that I have to destroy your notion of a perfect life as a married man."
Elijah sighted and touched her face gently. This was an unbelievingly tricky situation. He started to like the heretic girl and he also felt that pull towards her...but this wasn't the right reason to marry. But this marriage was to save his family and she was willing to help, whatever her other intentions may be, this was honorable.
"No, you're perfect, Amelia. I'm just sorry that it has to be like this."
Now it was him that looked down. And now it was Amelia that lifted his face up. They gave each other comfort and it felt right.
"You know, I was married before, a thousand years ago, before I was turned. I didn't love that man when we were getting married. But I learnt to love him."
They shared this moment of looking each other deeply into the eyes. At some point, Amelia couldn't help but stare at his lips, feeling the urge to cross the distance between them. Her breath increased and so did Elijah's. His eyelids lowered, but just in the moment she thought he would grab her and kiss her, she took a step back and broke the tension.
