This was the end.
Amelia felt it, she would die if Lucifer pulled her into the portal to hell. She would never see her family again. Her true love. Never would she see her daughter growing up. She would be damned to spend eternity tortured by the devil in hell.
The stories of the white light kind seemed to be true. The portal was a glowing white light, a pool of pure power which Bonnie held upright now. Amelia was collateral damage. And it was okay if no one else had to die. But even if she existed for a thousand years, it wasn't her time to go. She just started to actually live. The heretic had found peace, a redemption between the Mikaelson's, at Elijah's side. Now it was over after such a small amount of time.
At first, Amelia felt her power being drained from her body. Lucifer had grabbed her wrist as he was sucked into the portal and where he touched her, it was like he sucked all of her magic off her. Her screams were high pitched and the pain was unbearable. But the most prominent feelings was sadness. A bright future had been in front of her and Lucifer took it from her. Of course she was prepared that she could die this night, but deep inside she had hoped for her happy end. Just once.
Her hands already had disappeared in the light when she was suddenly grabbed from behind. Arms slung around her waist and pulled her back.
Elijah never had been stronger before. Freya had managed to break through the barrier and Elijah immediately stormed through it. The bond between him and his wife never had been stronger. He would save her. She wouldn't die today. A power never seen before pulsated through him when he grabbed Amelia and pulled against the raging storm of light. He would go down with her if he had to, at least he knew that he had done everything he could. Elijah loved her so deeply, he couldn't live without her anymore and so he didn't think twice about risking everything.
And suddenly, it was over. The portal disappeared all of a sudden and Elijah and Amelia flew back into a wall. An eerie silence came over the compound, this moment where everything was quiet, because everyone was trying to figure out what just had happened.
But then, the portal that they thought had disappeared exploded. It didn't set anything on fire, but the force of all the power, the magic from the souls Lucifer had sucked dry, was released and sent everyone flying into the walls.
Lights of all different shades and colors hovered in the compound, looking for a way out. It shattered the windows and broke the doors open, but after all, the power disappeared outside.
Lucifer was gone. He finally was sent back to hell.
They won.
Amelia couldn't grasp this fact right now. She looked down to her hands desperately. The emptiness inside her consumed her. Her magic was gone. She couldn't feel it anymore. It felt like when Freya had ripped the influence of the devil out of her, just worse. A part of her was gone. Her magic, her connection to the earth, the only thing that had been steady in her life disappeared.
"Amelia?"
Elijah whispered, but she couldn't answer. The others around them were recovering from the shock they had just witnessed, so no one but Elijah noticed Amelia's state.
"Amelia, what's wrong?"
When she still didn't reply anything, he lightly shook her by the shoulders to rip her out of her trance. Amelia focused again and directly looked into Elijah's eyes.
"It's gone, my magic is gone."
...
The compound was a mess after the portal closed. But no one really cared. They were all engulfed with their own thoughts. After all, they were simply relieved about the fact that no one had died tonight, except for Lucifer. Kind of.
What happened after that was a whole other story. Another kind of fear crept up. Amelia was with Lucifer for months, she knew what kind of power was now set free.
She stood in her and Elijah's bedroom, next to Lily's crib who had returned safely with Hayley and Hope. The mother held a candle in her hand, her eyes fixated on it to concentrate. Even if she knew her magic was gone, she still tried to lit the candle. Without any success. Amelia stood like this for hours now and she was getting more desperate by the second. Of course she was happy that they won, but for her it felt like somebody died.
Elijah sighed when he stepped into the room. He understood how this must feel for her. She still was shocked, so she couldn't see that everything would probably work out fine right now. The Original took the candle out of her hand and wrapped his arms around her, looking over her head with a light smile as he watched his daughter sweetly sleeping.
"We'll find a way, Amelia. All this power had to go somewhere and we'll find it."
Amelia shook her head and buried her face in the fabric of his shirt, her arms slung around his waist.
"No, we shouldn't. I'm a heretic, Elijah, my magic is not of the light kind. It will combine with other darker powers which will mean even more danger. We can't have that. I just need time to get used to it. I'm a mother, I can't get myself in such danger just for getting my magic back."
Elijah nodded understanding and turned his wife around his arms, so they were facing Lily. She was all worth it. He interlaced their fingers to which their wedding rings clung together.
"To be honest that's the least of our problems. The magic that was released. One of those was the Hallow's. It may be back. I suppose we'll find out soon."
The threat of death and doom never faded around the Mikaelsons, Amelia was sure of that. But she herself was a Mikaelson now, so she couldn't run away from that.
"But we won for today. We protected our daughter. Lucifer is gone and whatever threat is facing us, we'll fight it. Together."
Elijah placed a kiss on her cheek and Amelia closed her eyes. For all those years, she found 'Always & Forever' pathetic. But now she understood. This vow was something they all could cling to and it felt good to be a part of it.
