Elijah went out into the city after Amelia revealed what had happened to her. He felt guilty that he wasn't there for her, but he didn't trust himself. The fear that he could break his beautiful, slightly fragile love ran deep in him. Instead he needed to let his steam off somewhere else.
He grabbed a drunk young guy who was dancing through Bourbon street alone and pressed him against a wall in a dark alleyway. His victim struggled against his iron grip, it triggered Elijah's hunting instincts and a slight dark smile crossed his face and he thought about letting him go just to enjoy the growing fear and panic in this person. But as he was very hungry, he chocked him further to silence him before biting hard into his neck. He was sloppy, blood covered his lips, chin, his white shirt and the jacket of his suit.
Amelia found him clung to the guys' neck and she sighed relieved and leant against the wall, her arms crossed in front of her chest, waiting for her husband to finish his meal. She frowned when she saw how messy he had become. Usually, he was a clean drinker, a little drop of blood on the corner of his mouth was the only hint that he even drank blood. But today he bit too hard, he hurt the man's veins beyond repair. He would kill him, but Amelia let him be. She knew it was his dark side showing and she knew that it was his way of processing things. A little corner of a mind considered it somehow sexy and imagined that she could join him in his meal.
But there were much more though things to discuss. Amelia had just found out that she was pregnant with the devil's, who was coincidentally her husband's father, baby and she had no idea what to think about it. Of course she knew that Elijah would be upset, but she needed his opinion in this matter.
She waited without making a sound until he was finished. When his victim's heart stopped, he let him fall to the ground carelessly and turned to face Amelia. His face shocked his wife for a short moment. He looked so cold, reckless...like a monster she didn't know.
But as his gaze locked with hers and he saw fear in her, Elijah was pulled back into reality. He stared down on his bloodied hands and hated himself even more. He definitely was a monster. Even Amelia had fear visible in her eyes, just for a mere second, but it was there.
"I...Forgive me."
Amelia sighed, walked towards him, reached over and pulled the handkerchief out of his pocket and handed it to him. Elijah cleaned his face and his hands, waiting for her to say something.
"Elijah, I'm the last one to judge. We both know I've done things more terrible, as we both have our dark sides to cope with."
She looked away, still not really having made peace with herself over the things she had done when she was connected with Lucifer. Elijah cupped her cheek with his hand and forced her to look at him.
"That's not what I meant. I want to apologize for walking away when you needed me."
The heretic vampire nodded and closed her eyes, preparing for the extra load of somehow bad news she had to spill. She didn't know what to think about being pregnant. Deep inside her, she was filled with joy. When she was turned into a vampire, she was depressed about the fact that she couldn't have children. As a human, she adored children, her own the most, but she always had wanted as much as she could get. Now she got the miracle opportunity. But the circumstances couldn't be worse.
"Elijah, there's something else..."
She started, but stopped when another wave of sickness and dizziness hit her. Elijah caught her and hold her by the waist until she was steady again. He looked at her worried, his lips parted in question, not knowing what was wrong with her. Vampires didn't get sick, just a few rare cases, a werewolf bite for example.
"What is it?"
He held her close to him and urged her to answer when she hesitated. Amelia grabbed he fabric of his jacket, afraid of the consequences. This was all so messed up...
"I'm pregnant."
The heretic whispered, a human wouldn't have heard it, but Elijah did. He froze, his gaze fixed on her as her words sunk in.
"You're a vampire..."
It felt like yesterday when Elijah spoke those words before, concerning his brother Klaus. In this case he was very wrong and his world was shaken up for the first time, as it was the beginning of his niece's story. He shook his head, he already knew that it was the truth, he just couldn't believe it.
"Were talking about Lucifer here. Everything is possible. I...I'm so sorry."
Amelia felt that Elijah was slipping away from her and her gaze went down ashamed. He is hands loosened their grip on her waist. It was like wall going up, a distance insuperable. She knew that he was disgusted by the thought, he wasn't able to accept that his wife was actually pregnant with his sibling. He couldn't fight for the child like he did for Hope.
"No, it's not your fault...I just...I can't..."
He stepped back and was about to disappear again when Amelia suddenly got angry and grabbed his arm.
"No, you're not leaving me alone again! I can't deal with this on my own! You're my husband for god's sake, stay by my side! If really love me as much as you always claim to, we'll go through this together. Please, Elijah..."
Her last words weakened into whisper and she was working hard on keeping herself together. She needed to be strong for now.
Elijah turned back around and looked her in the eyes for a long time without saying anything. After finally realizing how foolish he was to leave her alone with all of this, that actually she was the person that suffered the most her pulled her into a comforting embrace. He leaned his forehead onto hers and sighed. Amelia understood that he felt sorry for his behavior.
"Amelia, I know we lived in times where it wasn't possible to...I mean, it's your decision if you want to keep it or not. I'll support you however your choose."
She smiled, but took a deep breath.
"I don't think I have a choice in the matter. Lucifer must've been sure that he could impregnate me, he wouldn't have released me. And I don't think I'll find a doctor that's specialized on heretic vampire that are pregnant with the freaking anti-christ...But to be honest, I don't know...I think it's an opportunity for us. If we find a way to defeat Lucifer, we can be a family."
Amelia took Elijah's hand and placed it on her flat stomach. Even though they would be the craziest family ever, as this child was Elijah's sibling, but he had to be its father...she demand that of him.
"...But I can understand if you can't."
Again her husband shook his head, he placed a light kiss on her forehead and caressed her belly gently.
"You're my wife. I fight for your life and for the life of...our child whatever it takes."
It was the moment when Elijah accepted this child growing in Amelia's belly as his own. Neither Amelia nor the child were responsible for the situation when it was fathered. So Elijah needed to be its father and he would love it more than anything in the world, besides Amelia. He swore to himself that this child would live a happy life, with a loving family and caring parents. Elijah would fight for it with his life.
The Original now could understand how Niklaus felt when he finally accepted that he was Hope's father. Elijah also felt fear, insecureness and was afraid to fail. But the most prominent feeling was joy. It was the chance of his life, the opportunity to build a family with his wife, even though it seemed impossible after becoming a vampire.
