Vanessa

"to the first day of the rest of your lives."

Oh my god I can't breathe

Dr. Henderson looks away and I take a deep breath in and out. In and out.

Great, Vanessa. You are already nervous about this job, you don't have time to crush on guys. This isn't a romance novel. You have a job to do and a reputation to earn.

I keep breathing in and out, but it isn't helping.

"Hey," Ashley says. I jolt up in my seat, "you ok? Got the hots for the attending?"

"I just need to go to the bathroom." I say, ignoring her other comment, "I'll be right back."

I stand up and make my way through the crowd and towards the doors. Once I make my way through, I open the doors head to the bathroom. After getting about 5 wrong turns, I finally find it and enter.

I look at myself in the mirror and prepare myself for another pep talk. I get my face close up to the mirror and open my mouth. Before I can speak, the doors open and I shrink back to my normal stance. After taking a few more deep breaths, I turn the faucet on.  Cupping the waand head back to the conference room.

I can do this

As I'm walking back, I laugh to myself.

I am pretty positive that the next few years are going to run on taking deep breaths and pep talks to myself

Thankfully, I didn't get lost this time and make it back to the conference. Before I open the doors, my chest starts to pound more.

With a few more long deep breaths, my chest slows down and I'm relaxed as much as I can be. My hand reaches for the door handle and I pull it open.

The residents are just starting to yell out the interns that are under their wing for their residency.

I make my way over to Ashley. As I look through the crowd, I thank Jesus that I don't see the him.

I guess I am going to spend some time avoiding him, aren't I?

I reach Ashley.

"Hey, have you been put with a resident yet?"

"Nope," she says jittery, having her foot tap on the ground inconsistently, "You haven't either"

I am surprised how nice Ashley is to me now.  Literally a few minutes ago she was stone cold, but now?  Now she looks more comfortable, like she can trust me.

"Thanks," I reply, biting my inner cheek, "Are you-"

Before I can finish my question, I hear my last name being called from a loud voice.

"Martin, McGee, Williams, Douglas, and Rosenfeld. With Dr. Watson."

I see a man in the back raise his hand. He is bald and has a body that is in the shape of a bowling pin. Even from a distance, he looks very stern and unhappy.
