I grab a soap bar and turn on the water in the scrub sink. My soap glides over my hands and lower-forearm as I clean my hands from the surgery performed.

For me, today has been a bore. After doing a hip replacement, which I had done hundreds of times, to endless paperwork from the departments meeting yesterday, I have been drowning in boredom.
I need some excitement.

I need Vanessa.

I smile at the thought.  Something about her, the mysterious, the chase- I don't know, makes me want to get closer to her more. Now. She's different and unlike any girl I have ever been interesting in. Usually, they flaunt all over me, mean while I am pretty sure I saw Vanessa running from me today.

As I scrub the ends of my fingertips again, I hear the door opening, revealing a wearied-looking Robert.

"Are you ready to give Chief of Surgery to me yet?" I smirk at Robert as I slide my soapy hands into the water again.

"I state again. Over my dead body," he says. Jokingly, he adds, "Do I have to repeat myself. Maybe syllable to syllable to help?"

I wanted to tell him about his preposterous idea that I won't be Chief one day, but I keep my thoughts on and let time do the sharing. For the moment, I let out a small laugh and say, "just wait."

"Anyways," he makes his way over to the sinks and leans against it, "How is it going with that intern, Vanessa."

It's... interesting," I say, not sure on how to actually describe it, "It's something new and different. A better different."

"Yeah, I got to say she is one of the best interns I have seen in a while,". Robert adds.  I can't help but smile when I hear this,"Even with this, as a friend, just take it slow if you are really interesting in her so-" he stops rights in his tracks.  And just like that, like a lighter igniting, I am pissed.  He might have tried to seem sneaky that he left things unsaid, but he didn't have to say anything.  He had already said it through his tone, through his words, through his entire presence.

"So we don't have another Rachel incident-"

I should have seem it coming even before he started talking about Vanessa.

My voice turns into a harsh tone, "Why, you don't trust me with another relationship with a very different women and employee.  I have have had plenty of hookups here and you have had no problem."

"Look, you haven't had a real relationship since that.  As I friend I just want to help-"  his voice is slow and concerning, yet this just pisses my me off even more.

"Yeah, help your precious hospital and not lose any more people."  I roughly grab a paper towel and dry off my hands.  All the while I am sending daggers to Robert, barely even blinking.

"You know that's not true"

I let out a huff of air in frustration as I throw my paper towels in the trash.  My feet spring movement as I make my way to to the door.  Out of fast reaction, Robert gets a grip onto my arm and clamps his hand down.  I may be strong, but his death grip could probably stop anything.

"I can handle my own damn business, Rob,"

Roughly, I try to release out of his grip, but he only grips on tighter.  Getting angered with my rejection of listening, Robert looks me right in the eyes and says, "Look, she has great potential."
