Vanessa

"Good morning sweetheart!" I hear a chirpy voice enter my bedroom and over to me, "You have to get up now to get to school!"

I open my eyes slightly as I turnover to face her face, "Do I have to go Mom?" I ask her as I rub my 9-year old head.

"Of course, dear. You know how important it is if you want to be a doctor like me," she says with a great big smile on her face. Even when I knew she had been working for hours before, she was always smiling around me.

As she says this, I do my usual routine of pulling my pink twin comforter over my head and pretending I can't hear her answer.

She takes a seat on the edge on my bed, "Well, I guess that we are going to this the hard way." My bed creaks as she leans in closer to me. Through the comforter I see her two hands coming down at me. I laugh hysterically as her hands drop down suddenly and tickle my stomach.

"Alright alright!" I say through the laughing fists. She retracts her hands as I pop out of bed as fast and I can and run out of my room and down the hardwood stairs. My nose flares as I enter the amazingly smelling kitchen.

"That smells amazing Dad," I walk over to the stove where he is cooking pancakes. I then plant a kiss on his cheek and make my way over to the kitchen table. Once I get settled into my seat, I watch as Dad flips the pancakes, settles two onto a paper plate, and brings them over to me.

"The best for my baby girl!" he says as he dramatically drops the plate of pancakes onto the table in front of me, "Breakfast is served."

I laugh at his silly antics as I take a bite out of the fluffy white pancakes in front of me. Once I am about three-quarters through my pancakes, Mom makes her way down the stairs. "Hello sweetie," she says to my Father as she gives him a quick peck on the lips.

"Eww," I mutter as I put my hands over my eyes. All of us laugh together like we had no care in the world.

If we only knew what was going to happen next.

"Ready to go, V?" She asks me and I mob my head on return. I leap off the kitchen chair and grab my backpack. Quickly, I run out of the door to the garage and hop into the car. I take a seat on the right side of the back seat as I always do, and I buckle my seatbelt.

Once Mom gets into the car and starts the engine, we head to school. Everything is fine. Perfect, even.

Until it wasn't.

We turn down South Quarry road, only two more turns until we arrive in front of the school. Our house was only a few miles from our house and I could've taken the bus, but Mom consisted on driving me in.

As we usually do, Mom turns on the radio and she searches through the many radio stations available. She then reaches a song that we both loved. To this particular song, I actually don't know the name, but I hum along as much as I can.

Mom then turns the second to last corner onto an almost open road. As she is driving, she quickly turns back to me and smiles.

Then all hell broke loose

BAM SCREECH CRASH
