"Hello handsome"
Oh hell no. Not this again
I see Dr. Muff make her way towards me and Vanessa. She comes right next to me and puts her hand on my arm.
"So sorry to hear about your patient, it was a real tragedy."
"I am going to tell the family the news," I hear Vanessa say, smirking.
No! Please don't leave me with her. My mind screams at Vanessa.
I open my mouth to reject, to make her wait. To make her stay. Before I can get any words out, she beats me to it.
"It's ok, I got this."
I watch as she walks away, with such beauty without even trying.
"Good, now that she's gone," I turn back to Muff and she grabs my arm tighter, "I was wondering if you wanted to get a drink tonight." She gives me a smirk that makes me cringe internally.
"Muff-" I start.
"I told you to call me Alex, silly," she laughs and grabs my arm even tighter.
I swear if she grabs any tighter I am going to lose blood circulation to my arm
"Alex," I say slowly, "I am sorry, but I am not interested in you." I release my arm from her death grasp.
She laughs, "I'm sorry, I must not have heard you right. Can you just repeat that last part?"
"I am not-" before I can finish the second rejection, I hear the high pitch scream of a little girl.
"NO! SHE KILLED BRO. YOU ARE A KILLER. YOU'RE A KILLER MONSTER."
Before I can react to see what is happening, I see Vanessa fastly walking out. She is looking down at the ground and shaking her head.
"Hey," I start and take a step towards her, "Are you-"
"I'm sorry," she interrupts me. She lifts her head up and I look into her eyes. My eyes look into hers and search for something. For anything to tell me what is happening. I search, but all I can see is that is that she is in pain. Lots and lots of pain.
"I can't be here right now. I need to go," she says, almost wheezing.
She runs out the waiting room. I run after her to the doorway of the waiting room, "Vanessa! Wait!"
But she is already gone.
Without even thinking, I run out of the waiting room. My feet pound against the ground as I bolt around the main foyer, looking for her, asking where she if people have seen her.
And then I think.
Outside
I run to the doors and push them open. My eyes look out through the rain as I feel the rain weigh down my scrubs. Through the rain, I see her.
She is leaning against the side of the building, with her hands to her chest. Her head is down and shaking back and forth. I make my way over to Vanessa. I bring my knees to my chest as I lean next to her. My eyes watch her as her head moves down and sits on her knees, blocking her face.
"Are you alright?" She lifts her head up. Even with the pouring rain drenching us, I can see the tears on her cheek stream down. Her eyes are puffy and swollen.
"Umm, yeah," She takes a breath and wipes the tears off of her cheeks, even though it is pouring. I watch as she rubs her eyes and looks back to me, "Yeah, I'm fine. You didn't have to come and find me."
