"Baby." Scott calls from his bedroom. I walk up the stairs from the living room and open his door. He's just sitting on his bed on his phone. "I don't need anything I just missed your presence." He smiles at me and I roll my eyes jokingly.

I stride over to his bed and plop down by his feet. He just looks at me. Like full on stares at me. I don't get uncomfortable, though. The silence and the eye contact and pretty comforting. However, I decide to break the silence.

"You do know how proud I am of you right?" I ask and place a hand lovingly on his leg.

He looks confused for a moment. "What are you proud of me for?"

"Going back to school. Not killing anyone at this school. Your grades. You've made friends. You're living the life you should be living."

He just grins at me. That goofy grin that I love. "Thank you Mitchie." He leans forward and presses a quick peck on my lips. "How long until we have to leave?"

"About 45 minutes." I reply and he smirks at me.

"Is that long enough?" His hand sneaks under my shirt as he brings his lips to my neck.

I giggle and push him away. "Nope. Last time it took us three hours."

"Yes but I had also been deprived of my Mitchie halfway through a session and had some girl call me a fag." He whines and wraps his arms around me. I push him away again and he pouts. Child.

Before we even realize it, it's time to leave for school.

We walk into our first period and take our seats, directly next to each other, just as the final bell rings. The teacher greets us with a small smile. Our seats are near the back row on the right side of the class.

The teacher greets us on this fine Monday with a pop quiz on the material we've learned so far. Of course Scott and I finish at the same time. And of course he never pays attention so I told him the answers through our thoughts. I always make sure to give him one or two wrong answers so the teacher doesn't get suspicious.

We aren't allowed to talk so I end up doodling in my notebook and talking with Scott.

'So what do you think our next conflict will be? I mean, we've already dealt with me dying and then figuring out what I am. Then Alex... what's next?' Scott inquires.

'I'm not sure. I don't want to worry about conflict right now. Too much stress.'

'Mitchie guess what?'

'What, Scott?'

He starts singing the fucking Barney song. 'I love you. You love me. We're a great big happy family! With a smile and a kiss, a hug from me to you! Won't you say you love me too?' Of course with Scott being Scott he added riffs and runs to pretty much every note.

'I legitimately hate you right now.'

'You could never hate me.'

'You're right.' I don't even have to look at him to know that he's smirking.

'You never said it ba-'

I instantly turn my head to look at him when he cuts his sentence short. His eyes are wide as he stares at...

A boy. He and his friend in the front row were throwing their freshly sharpened pencil back and forth. He didn't catch the toss back to him and the pencil stuck right into his wrist, striking his vein. He pulled the pencil out of his arm and it literally started gushing blood. Hence, Scott's reaction.

Scott's Soul eyes suddenly appear and his breathing quickens. I notice his fingers gripping the desk so hard that his knuckles are white. He'll break it if he doesn't calm down.

"Scott, chill out." Thank God no one is looking at us. Everyone is worried about the kid bleeding. I can smell the blood, it's potent, but I'm well-trained enough to not freak out.

He suddenly starts chuckling quietly. His wide eyes and heavy breathing are still present, though. "We're monsters, Mitch. We're meant for killing... I just want a taste." He instantly appears in the middle of the small crowd that is gathered around the boy and he takes the boy's wrist in his hands, staring hungrily at the blood. He opens his mouth and starts moving his head towards his arm.

"SCOTT NO!" I scream and use my speed to get to him. I grab him by the back of his shirt and fling both of us out of the room. We land with a loud smash against the lockers. "WHAT THE HELL, SCOTT?! YOU JUST ALMOST FED IN THE MIDDLE OF A CLASSROOM!"

"Why did you stop me!? He looked SO delicious! He was going to be my snack!" His voice drops the octave to his vampire voice. He shoves me and I'm thrown across the small hallway to slam into the lockers behind us.

"Scott what is wrong with you right now!? You're talking crazy!" I stand up immediately and get in his face.

"No YOU'RE talking crazy! We were designed to kill Mitch! Not go to Donation Centers or drink from animals! We drink human blood. WE KILL MITCH! WE ARE BLOODTHIRSTY MONSTERS! CAN YOU NOT SEE THAT!?"

"STOP IT SCOTT!" His Soul eyes suddenly disapear, replaced by his gorgeous blue orbs. He whimpers slightly in defeat.

"I'm sorry Mitchie..." He buries his face in my neck as he wraps his arms around me.

"What got into you Scotty?" I ask as I stroke his hair comfortingly. "You were starting to sound like... him." I shudder at the mention of a certain monster.

A loud sob escapes his mouth as soon as I mention him. "I'm not like him I promise." He murmurs into my shirt as his tears soak my shoulder.

"I'm curious as to what got into you too." The new voice startles both of us.

I gasp when I see who it is.

"Mr. Updegraff!"
