Turning through the book to the speaking activity, I sighed with frustration and tried my best to smile.

"Alright. Do you want to go first?"

"No," Harry replied flatly.

"Fine. I'll go," I scoffed and looked down at the first question.

"De dónde eres?" I sighed.

"Nowhere."

"Qué te gusta hacer?"

"Nothing."

"Harry, why are you being so difficult?"

"No reason." This kid was so fucking annoying.

"You know what, fine. I'm gonna do my shit and you can forget me trying to help you." Turning back toward my desk and stuffing my headphone into my ears, I could see his expression soften. Writing bullshit down on my paper, I shoved it toward the kid in front of me as the dismissal bell rang and quickly got out of my seat. Making my way toward the locker room with a huff, my legs strode against the shiny tile as I roughly pushed through the kids.

"Well, excuse you," a girl scoffed.

"Get the fuck out of my way then, dumb ass," I mumbled and kept walking. Making it to the locker room, I pounded my fist against the door for someone to come open it.

"Hey," Chloe smiled as the door behind me shut with a loud thud.

"Everyone looks so thrilled for conditioning," I chuckled, pulling my shirt over my head.

"We have that four mile team run today," Kimberly announced.

"Fuck my life," I groaned.

"Huffman's extending it to five in September and six in October."

"Oh Jesus," I groaned, pulling my spandex up my long legs.

"Did you see that new freshman girl who's really tall?" Alexis asked, pulling on her socks.

"The one with braces?"

"Yeah."

"She's really sweet. I was bigger than her last year. Shay, you remember when I knocked that girl down and she broke her elbow?" I laughed.

"That was hilarious." Laughter rang out of the locker room as we finished getting dressed and headed outside.

"Hey girls!" Coach Huffman yelled excitedly, her shorts flowing in the wind. Giving a tiny smile and wave, I patiently awaited her instructions.

"Okay. So, the seniors know the route y'all are running and Kimberly, Alexis, Shayla, I want you in the front. Ellie, you, Rocky and Shan bring up the back." With a nod, we all walked to the edge of the road and began to run. My heart pounded against my chest as I picked up my pace and jogged slowly next to the tall freshman.

"You got it girl. Keep going," I breathed and could tell she was feeling like shit. Her legs moving even slower, I placed my hand on her back and encouraged her to keep pushing up the hill. Extending my stride before we began to walk, I challenged her a bit.

"Keep pushing!" Rocky encouraged as she jogged behind us. Taking in a deep breath, I patted the girls shoulder.

"You'll be alright. You've got time," I smiled.

"Thanks," she nodded. Continuing with the run, I could tell she was a fighter. As we finished, I steadily encouraged her to keep pushing before she threw up on the bridge as cars flew past us.

"Great job today. I'm proud of you," I sighed as I drank some water.

"I appreciate it." Walking toward my car, I distributed everyone's stuff before seeing someone propped against the hood.

"Harry, not so great to see you." My keys jingled in my hands.

"I wanted to talk."

"About what?"

"Just talk."

About what?"

"I just wanna clear some things up," his voice full of gentleness.

"You have my attention," I snapped.

"Sorry for the way I was acting earlier."

"You're just getting on my nerves."

"You were rude too."

"I could say the same for you. You seem like a real charmer."

"The ladies seem to think so."

"Only the stupid ones," I spat meanly.

"Feisty. I like that."

"I'm not that feisty. Or stupid."

"Uptight and completely fucking rude? Yes."

"Not what your used to? I presume tiny blondes with daddy issues suit you a little better?"

"Why stereotype me, Ellie? I don't stereotype you," he grinned. Where had this come from? One minute he was shy and nervous and now he was a total dick.

"Can you just leave me the fuck alone?" I snapped.

"Sorry Ellie, no can do."

"And why not?" I groaned.

"You still haven't apologized."

"Why would I want to apologize?"

"You're still standing here aren't you?" he smiled and the two dimples on either side of his mouth made their debut.
