Need to breathe-the heart
Ellie's POV:
Cutting the cake, we divided the pieces equally and dug in.
"When can we open presents?" I asked, my question muffled by the cake I was chewing.
"We can do that now, love. Which one do you want to open first?" Harry's mom beamed at me.
"It really doesn't matter to me," I shrugged with a sleepy smile.
"Here, open mine first," Peter smiled, handing me a large box. "It's from a special friend of mine in Paris." Smiling down at the box wrapped in bright red wrapping paper, I felt tears well in the corners of my eyes. Tearing the wrapping paper open, I opened the box and started to cry.
"These are the Louboutin's I wanted," I sighed, wiping at my face. "Thank you so much, Pete."
"That's not all. There's something else in there," he grinned. Digging through the tissue paper, I smiled as I saw a blue Tiffany box.
"Pete," I sniffed. "You didn't."
"I did. Open it." Untying the silky bow, a sapphire and diamond ring glinted in the dim lighting.
"This is amazing." I was kind of an ugly crier. Don't judge.
"There's something on the inside."
"Isaiah 46:4, Matthew 5:15," I read aloud. These were two of my favorite bible verses.
"Happy birthday, beautiful," Peter beamed as I put the ring on my left hand.
"Thank you," I smiled widely and gave him a small hug. Getting through the other presents, I got more iTunes gift cards, some jewelry, and a sweater dress before finally getting to Harry's present.
"I'm kind of nervous," I laughed.
"Don't be," he chuckled and wrapped his arm around my waist. Taking the card from the top, I carefully opened the envelope and pulled the card out.
She doesn't say I like you like a normal person,
Instead, she'll laugh, shake her head and say.... 'You're an idiot'.
She'll hold my hand unknowingly holding my heart as well,
She'll smile that smile when she looks at me and that's the smile I live for,
The one that silently says everything will be okay as long as there's doughnuts in the world.
Her personality, strength, wit, and beauty are bestowed upon this earth like an awaiting pandemic.
They have yet to be recognized or discovered, but once they are, it will spread like a wild fire, inflicting light and hope onto everyone.
As she has inflicted light and hope into my life.
Happy birthday, beautiful. I couldn't help but smile widely at the beautiful words written in his neat, cursive handwriting.
"Thank you," I whispered, kissing his cheek. Pulling the tissue paper from the bag, I stuck my hand in, feeling something heavy in the bottom. Pulling it out and unwrapping the tissue paper that surrounded the present, I gasped.
"Harry." My eyes went wide at the Nikon camera in front of me.
"Do you like it?" he grinned.
"I love it!" I squealed. "Thank you so much." Finding two lenses, a camera bag, and three photography books under the other tissue paper, I again wiped tears from my eyes.
"This was the best," I beamed. "Thank you so much. You don't even know."
"I'm happy you're having fun. That's all I care about." I blushed as he kissed my temple and I took a deep breath. After the seemingly endless goodbyes were said, Harry and I made our way back to his car and began to drive.
"Where are we going?" I asked, holding his right hand tightly in mine.
"Back to my house," he smiled.
"Tomorrow, can we go by my house?" I saw his jaw clench and his hand tightened around mine.
"Why would you want to do that?" His tone had changed and I kept my fingers crossed that he wasn't going to start a screaming match with me.
"I've gotta face my dad sometime. No pun intended," I chuckled trying to make light of the situation.
"I don't think it's a good idea, but if that's what you want to do, we can. I'm coming with you, though."
"I wouldn't want you not to come with me," I laughed. Finally pulling into his driveway, we made our way into the dark house and up the stairs with giggles, closing his bedroom door behind us.
"Can I tell you something?" Harry asked, wrapping his arms around my waist.
"Anything," I smiled, my hands resting in his long, curly hair.
"I love you."
