"Alex wait!" I heard Luke call as I inched closer to the front door with angry stomps. I didn't turn around and didn't plan to, but he pulled me back with the use of his hand on my shoulder. "Please just listen me."
My arms were still crossed against my chest. "A bet, really? That's the reason you wanted to come to my house and why you did everything after that? You must be really broke and committed.''
"It wasn't completely like that."
"Okay then. What's your gran explanation?"
He scratched the back of his neck searching the ground for something to say. "Um-uh." He stammered.
"That's what I thought." I huffed and rolled my eyes. I could see the boys watching from the doorway to the living room, dying with laughter. Could they be more annoying?
I turned, walked out, and shut the door hard behind me. I hopped down the door steps and heard the door open and feet shuffling behind me.
"Following me isn't going to work this time. Leave me alone or I swear I'll punch you in the balls."
"It's not Luke." I turned around to find Luke's twin standing with his hands digging deeply in his pockets nervously.
"Is it your turn to see if you can get into my pants?"
"No. I just wanted to see if you were okay." He stammered.
"Sure. Like you care." I rolled my eyes yet again. "Why would you?"
"Right, yeah." He shook his head feverishly. "Sorry, this was a bad idea. I should leave you alone." With that he turned and headed back to where he came from.
"Wait, I'm sorry. I'm being a jerk." He turned around and looked at me. "The whole bet thing with Luke is really bothering me and I'm letting my anger out on you."
"I get it." He laughed awkwardly. "My brother can be a dick sometimes."
"Oh, trust me. I know." I mentally recalled us sharing the chocolate bar and talking with each other and hated myself for believing he actually liked me.
Awkward silence of us examining the sidewalk followed. "I'm Jai." He smiled as he held his hand out for a shake. Luke and this guy may have looked almost exactly looked alike, but there were some obvious differences between them. Luke practically met me with the interaction of our tongues while Jai wanted to shake my hand. Weird.
I held out my hand and gladly shook his. "Alex."
"So, uh, how do you like New York?" I asked as I sat on the curb and he did the same.
"It's quite noisy and chilly."
"If you think it's cold during our summer, try coming when it's below twenty in January." I laughed.
Jai gasped. "You have to live through that. Can't you just stay inside?"
"I can't just skip school when it's too cold, no matter how much I hate High School." I retaliated.
"High school wasn't easy for me either." He said blankly.
I was about to ask what happened to him when he was younger, but was interrupted. "Jai come-" It was the tall one with dimple piercings. The boy then did a girly giggle in our direction and stuck his head back inside.
"I should go." Jai said. "Before the wolves come hunting." He smiled, stood, and started to make his way back to the house by walking backwards. "Will I see you around?"
"I guess we'll find out." I smiled before standing myself and walking home.
Really short, sorry
