I slowly woke up, opening my eyelids ever so slightly to find that it was morning due to the sunlight illuminating the room. I don't remember how I got here, but I was in one of my aunt's guest room, the one I changed in yesterday for the party. Was it yesterday? I don't know. I swung my legs over the bed and looked down at my body. I was in boy's boxers and a T-shirt that was a bit big on me and wasn't mine. How did I get into this?
I finally put my weight onto my legs and stood up. My head began to throb from the sudden movement. I lifted my arms, which felt like bricks, to my head, trying to somehow comfort it and winced at the pain, and decided to lean my back back on the bed again. I looked up at the ceiling and tried to think.
What the hell happened? I remember being at the party last night with Damien and the games we played: Spin the Bottle and 7 Minutes in Heaven. I remembered kissing Damien with all eyes on us in the circle of people from my school and then again in the closet willingly. We went farther in the closet than I had ever gone. I bit my lip in nostalgia for the moments in the small, dark closet, but quickly recoiled as the memory of Joe crept into my mind. I was calling him Joe simply because he looked like one, but learned he was "Sting" Ray Peterson in reality. His blondness, blue eyes, and smile made him look like an angel- but looks are almost always deceiving, and his were most definetley. That night I had gone too far with Katherine Patterson's cousin, Damien, and let her brother, Ray, kiss me in fear of being mocked for being a scared loser.
I rolled my eyes in disgust with myself for all I had done in a matter of an hour and felt frustration for not being able to really remember anything else from the night. When I finally felt well enough, I slowly brought myself into an upright position on my (aunt's) bed. Little by little I got closer to standing. The throbbing wasn't completely gone, but it was easy to ignore.
I walked over to the closet in the room and pulled out the bag of my stuff I kept in here and pulled out a navy blue t-shirt with a Doctor Who blue box-the TARDIS. I was a proud nerd who loved the science fiction show and not ashamed to show it. I finished my outfit by pulling on jean shorts and flip flops, encouraged by the sunshine glowing through the windows. Feeling through the blanket on the bed, I found my phone and clicked the top right button and watched my screen light up. It told me it was 12: 30 p.m. and that it was in fact the day after the party. I also saw I had two texts. Both were from Damien. I couldn't recall him giving me his number, but I still smiled. I unlocked the screen and opened up the conversation. The two texts were the first in my text history with him. The first said Hey, sorry to just leave you there but I didn't wanna bring you to my place and have you waking up thinking I kidnapped you. There was a laughing emoji after and the second message read Call me. I sighed in honest relief. Whatever I didn't remember from the night before didn't involve me scaring him away. I dialed his number and walked out the door and closed it behind me. I approached the stairwell to the first floor as the phone rang on my end the first time. The house was silent, and I almost forgot about the other guests in the house. The silence most probably meant the boys were either still asleep or never came home.
Another ring.
I made it to the bottom of the staircase when Damien finally picked up.
"Hey." I tried to fight the urge of smiling like an idiot seventh grade girl when her crush walked into the room.
"Hi," was all I managed to get out of my mouth.
"Well, last night was fun." I walked straight towards the front door.
"Well, from what I can remember (like the part where you we were both on the ground and I wanted you to go all the way in the middle of a stingy dark closet for a stupid high school party game) it was great."
