Monday night

—————————————

WALKING IN WITH A half -empty box of pizza, Amir closed the door. He could hear Rayne talking on the phone, more than likely about the wedding. He dropped his car keys in the bowl and followed her voice. Naomi had got into his ass earlier about not helping Rayne out. It was kind of fucked up that he hadn't realized or noticed it much until she brought it to his attention.

When he walked into the bedroom, he noticed the stressed face of Rayne and sat the box of pizza on the dresser. She briefly looked at him, acknowledging his presence, but didn't say anything. She was obviously still upset with him and he knew that he was in the dog house for a minute. He hadn't mean to snap on her about Naomi's past. But, he really just needed to know and he knew Naomi meant what she said.

He just didn't like thinking the worst. And that's what he was doing.

"Alright, thank you." She sighed, rushing whomever it was off the phone. Amir looked on the bed to see a list, and picked it up. It was a list of people who were expected to receive a wedding invitation.

"You don't have your mother on here." He looked at her.

Rayne got up, and walked around him. "Do you have your father on there?" She shot back.

Amir dropped the list back on the bed, and followed her. "Damn, Rayne, you ain't gotta do all that. I'm sorry. I've been apologizing for two days now."

"Ah, forgive me Amir." She said sarcastically as she headed towards the bar. "I'm just a little stressed out, that's all."

"Well, can you at least talk to me?" He asked, trying to keep up with her fast pace. When he didn't get another reply from her, he called out her name. "Rayne."

Still no answer.

Finally, she'd made it to the bar and grabbed an already opened bottle of wine. He watched as she silently helped herself to a glass and chugged it in one sip. She closed her eyes, and sighed heavily signaling that she was relaxing her nerves. When she opened her eyes again, she squinted her eyes at his tie.

"You really went with that color this morning?" She shook her head.

Amir looked down at the red tie, and really didn't see the problem considering that he was wearing all black. "What's wrong with it?"

"It's so.. basic." Rayne responded as she fixed herself another glass of red wine.

"Well, somebody wasn't talking to me so I couldn't ask for their advice." He said matter of factly.

"You made me so mad, Amir. You know I don't like getting that upset. You really think Naomi would tell me something, but not you? For goodness sake, she's your sister. Then, you're not helping me with everything that's going on. You pushed every button."

She took a seat on the long couch, and he sat beside her. "Women usually tell their homegirls everything so I figured she told you and Remy."

Rayne shook her head. "She probably would've told Remy before she told me. Naomi and I are close, but her and Remy have known each other all their lives. Remy probably helped her through whatever it was. But, you know you won't get an answer out of her." She sat the glass on the table. "But, who knows? Maybe it's best that you don't know."

"What you mean maybe it's best that I don't know? That's my sister. If someone hurt her, of course I need to know." He said it like Rayne had offended him, not knowing that he basically just proved her point.
