Excuse any mistakes...
Houston, Texas
SundayThe rain bore down mercilessly upon the heart of the city, pounding on the rooftops and turning the cobbled streets of Houston into a warren of slick stones and muddy waters. In contrast to Seattle, it wasn't as nearly as cold.
Amir got out of his rental, pulled the hood over his head and shut the door behind him. He was at his mom's house, attempting to get any answers he could. Caty wouldn't be expecting him, but he didn't care.
He walked inside of the garage and knocked on the door. Amir was anxious, he couldn't stand still. He really wanted to confront Sam, but he'd probably go to jail for murder.
Knocking on the door again, he could hear his mom telling him to hold on. She opened the door and her eyes widened in surprise. "Amir? What are you doing here and why didn't you tell me you were coming?"
Amir ignored her question, and invited himself inside. He removed the hood off the top of his head and looked around the house. It was seemingly empty, just as he hoped. "Close the door." He instructed.
Caty looked at him for a minute before closing the door. She stood there with her hands on her hip, waiting for him to answer her question. "Amir, what are you doing here?"
"Did you know?" He looked at her with so much anger and disdain. "You had to."
"Did I know what? What are you talking about?"
"Did you know Sam was a sick bastard?" His voice raised.
Caty sighed, and slowly moved into the kitchen. "What do you mean, Amir?" He watched as she continued to chop lettuce on the cutting board, glancing up at him every now and then.
"You really actin' like you don't know what the fuck I'm talkin' about."
She stopped cutting and glared at him. "Do not cuss at me like you've lost your mind."
"Have you called Mimi?" He continued.
"I've tried." Caty sighed again. "She will not answer my calls. How is she?"
Amir folded his arms across his chest. "Crazy how she won't talk to you. It's almost like you've done something." He chuckled to himself. "She cool tho'. Ion think you deserve to know the details."
"Okay." Caty dropped the knife. "What's your issue?"
Amir walked into the kitchen. "My issue with you is that you allowed a sick ass bastard to be around our family when you knew he was a pedophile."
"I didn't know."
"Bullshit!" He yelled. "Mimi just ain't cut you off for nothin'. It's time y'all stop actin' like something didn't happen."
"I don't know why Mimi acted the way she did at the wedding and I definitely don't know why she stopped talking to me!" She yelled back.
Amir mugged her. "You really gon' lie to me in my face?"
"I don't know what else to tell you. I'm not lying." Caty shrugged, picking up the knife to finish cutting the rest of her lettuce.
