Chapter 13...

I spent Christmas day with my Dad, before driving, that afternoon, with Danny to see Kiera, Sydney and Art meet us down there a week later for new years. It was a good break filled with fun and laughter.

Two weeks later, I was back in the real world and working in a little clothing boutique, a job that I had got some time during my auto pilot days, it was a cute little store with over priced clothing hanging from the racks but the lady who owned it was a joyful character, who loved tea so much there was a constant pot of it brewing for her. I was sitting behind the counter filing my nails, bored out of my mind when Mia and her girl posy walked in.

'Oh God look what became of the all star swim champ....Loser!' She laughed with her friends. 'What no one thought you any good either?'

I looked up and rolled my eyes dramatically. 'Says you who works at Wal-Mart.'

'I do not!' She gasped.

Her friends around looked at her a little wary for a minute.

'I do not work at Wal-Mart!' She shouted at them.

'There is nothing wrong with working at Wal-Mart, Mia.' I chuckled.

'I'll have you know I got a swimming scholarship and I took it even though my parents can afford to pay for my education. And I'm doing so much better then you will ever do. I may even be in Nationals next season.' She sneered at me. Her little rant hit a nerve in me, for the first time I was jealous, I mean really jealous, I wanted to be out there swimming in competitions. I kept my composure and continued to file my nails.

'Well good luck with that, I'm sure when it comes down to it you'll let another team down just like you let ours down.'

'Excuse me!' She snapped.

'You're excused the doors that way, don't let it hit you on the way out.' I replied again in a flat tone.

'Argh.' With a flip of her hair she stormed out the shops, practically dragging the others with her. If I hadn't been so distracted by my own thoughts I would have been on the floor crying with laughter as they all got caught up in the doorway and tumbled out onto the side walk.

I walked home that evening with crazy thoughts still running through my mind. My Dad was giving me weird looks all evening and after dinner I think he lost the fight to let me stew and he curiosity got the better of him.

'Sweetheart, are you ok?'

'Yea, I'm fine.'

'You're not..uhmmm..?'

'No Dad I'm not sinking back into my depression.' I chuckled rolling my eyes at him.

'I wasn...'

'Yes you were, I think I'm going to phone that scout.' I added changing the subject.

'Really!' The shock was spread clean across his face as he spoke. 'I'll get the phone.' He was up and out of his chair before I could argue with him, coming back seconds later with the phone in his hand and the business card that the scout had left.

'Wow, I was just thinking about it, you know.' I laughed taking the phone from him and dialling the number.

'Well that's as good as making up your mind.' He winked before walking away to give me some privacy.
