Chapter 24...

'Right on time, please sit.' Coach James sat behind a large dark wooden desk, behind him on the wall, were hundreds of pictures of past Olympic swimmers, Awards and Certificates. I was impressive to say the least, if not a little intimidating. Luke and I sat down as instructed and waited for the Coach to speak.

'Well, this meeting is about our first swim meet coming up in a month. But before we go into that I thought I would address another matter.' After a loud sigh he continued.

'Your relationship! As I have said before I don't really care as long as it doesn't affect your performance in the pool, but his morning was completely unacceptable.' Both Luke and I opened our mouths to protest the fault, but he simply silenced us with his hand.

'I am fully aware that Mia was responsible for the argument, but that is not the matter that I am referring to. Both of you clearly had no sleep last night and that does in effect affect your performance, and that is unacceptable. With that said I feel that this morning more then suffices as punishment and I will assume that it won't happen again?'

'No sir!' Both Luke and I answered with a small chuckle.

'I don't think that this is a laughing matter.' He snapped, shutting us up. 'As for you Luke, you're part of a team that is representing a country, your country, what image does a black eye and swollen jaw convey to the rest of the world.'

'Sorry Sir.'

'Well fine but consider this your first warning, any other mishaps and I quarantine you to the opposite ends of the building. Do I make myself clear?'

'Yes Sir.' We both mumbled again.

'Right, well what in your bags?'

'Training kit sir.' Luke answered.

'Good. Our first meet is in a month, it is also part of the first stage of qualifying for the Olympics, and therefore it is extremely important that you are both up to scratch. During practice I expect you bring you're 'A' game, be punctual, follow instructions down to the last letter, when you're not in practice I expect you to push each other and get each other ready. When you are not sleeping or eating I expect you to be training. It is imperative that you understand how serious this is and Luke you know all this already but Rhylee, it's going to be tough and it's going to be a lot of hard work but the reward is out of this world. You need to tell me now if you don't know for sure that you want this cause if you don't then I can put my attention toward someone more deserving?'

'No sir I want this, I may not have before but I'm keen now Sir.'

'Good, that's what I wanted to hear. Right well from tomorrow you will have your normal schedule but you will now have an extra session in the evening. I will be at a lot of your sessions but clearly you two are not the only swimmers I have on this team and there is a lot of work to be done across the board, so you will be joined by Coach Manning as well. Unfortunately you have drawn the short end of the stick in regards to the early morning starts and late evening finishes but I'm sure that you will be able to fill the in between adequately?'

'Oh yes Sir early and late suit me just fine.' I relied.

'Ok well in a minute we will head out to the pool and get start records for you. I require that you put in your best performance in this race as I need to have an accurate time for you over 100 metres. Once we have that we will work everyday to shave off seconds and tweak any nig nags you may have and get you race ready.' He rummaged through his desk grabbing his stop watch. 'While you two are changing I'll get the nurse to arrange a medical for you both, it will be quite extensive, also you will be meeting with the dietician regarding your diets. I'll warn you now as the season progresses this is only going to harder, and you going to hurt, but the reward at the end is phenomenal. Now go get ready.'
