"I'll distract her. Get somewhere safe," Scott yelled at Sarah before turning to run away from her.
The last thing Scott wanted to do was separate from Sarah, but he wanted their tormenter nowhere near her even more. While the room was lit, Scott made a run for it. His hope was that the woman would follow, and she did just that. She cut across the dance floor and ran straight for Scott. It was in this moment that the dark moments began to last significantly longer than the illuminated ones.
Scott ran fast, thinking the light would return soon, but that was not the case. When the light didn't return as anticipated, Scott became disoriented and stumbled over a chair. Stumbling over the chair caused Scott to fall into a table before he landed on the floor. While he was on the floor the lights returned and his pursuer was close, unaware of his position. In all the commotion she lost sight of him and searched while she had a chance. Scott was able to locate her first, from the floor, as she walked only a table away. Before he was noticed the lights went out again.
Using the darkness to his advantage, Scott jumped to his feet and ran in the opposite direction of the woman. He used caution as he tried to create distance. The lights returned and both of them searched for each other. They weren't that far away and the chase was on. Just as they started to run the lights went out again, and Scott slowed down to a fast walk to avoid falling over something again. After several steps Scott would change his direction in hopes that it would make him harder to locate.
When the lights returned it was revealed that his strategy was working. They were no longer close to each other, but she was still in between him and the door he used to enter the room. The woman stood still and stared at Scott while the lights remained. Scott also didn't move as he waited for her to show which direction she was going to go. Neither one of them moved until the lights went out again. Once it was dark Scott began to walk at an angle in a direction that would bring him closer to the exit. He was out on the dance floor when the lights returned.
Scott was able to see once again, but now the woman was out of view. His heart pounded when he was unable to locate the woman. Whipping his head around he quickly found out where she was standing. Looking over his shoulder his jaw dropped when he noticed how close she was. She was close enough to reach out and touch him, and that's exactly what she attempted to do. The lights cut out as she swung wildly at Scott with her metal tenderizer. He fell backward and out of reach.
In the dark and flat on his back, Scott used his feet to push himself away from where he hit the floor. He twisted and turned as he slid himself across the dance floor. When he ran into a table he felt the tablecloth slide over him and got an idea. Pulling in his legs he hid within the confines of the tablecloth and waited to figure out his next move.
When Scott ran away from Sarah, she ran along the wall toward the other set of doors. When the lights went out, she placed her hand on the wall and guided herself blindly along. During a period of light she reached the next set of doors and found them unable to open. As she pushed against the doors someone grabbed her from behind and pulled her to the floor. She flailed and screamed in the dark not knowing who or what had a hold of her. Putting up a good fight, Sarah was able to break free and pull herself away from whoever it was trying to detain her. When the lights came back on she noticed that it was someone that had been over to her house visiting her parents on multiple occasions; he was familiar. Trevor crawled after her trying to find her in the dark. When the lights returned, they made eye contact, and through the loud music he tried to communicate with her that he wasn't trying to hurt her.
Sarah's immediate fear subsided and she allowed Trevor to approach her. He crawled past her and waved to her to follow. They both crawled along the edge of the tables, out of view of the beast of a woman, and toward the next set of doors. Trevor gave one of the doors a push and it swung open. As soon as he saw that it was a way out, Trevor was on his feet and Sarah was following after.
