Trevor splashed the water from an ice bucket into Scott's face to bring him back around from unconsciousness. Scott shook off the shock, and looked around the room wide eyed. He blinked multiple times as he focused on his surroundings. It didn't take long for him to realize he was tied to the desk chair inside a hotel room. He struggled to break free before acknowledging that his efforts were futile. He stared at the strips of sheets, tied firmly around his arms, while breaking through the daze that clouded his mind. Sitting on the bed across from him was Trevor, staring at the wall.

Without looking at Scott, Trevor said, "This was not how I planned for things to go."

"I've been hearing that a lot lately," replied Scott.

"You know I loved her? With all my heart."

"What are you talking about," asked Scott.

"She was reluctant, but I was in love with her from the start. She was everything that I looked for in a woman. There was just something about her that clicked with all my wants. And you had her. You didn't appreciate her...I watched you day in, and day out, take her for granted. She knew it; I knew it, and you didn't care. It didn't take much to convince her of the truth. All it took was a little attention...You stained her with that kid. If only I would have gotten to her first...Funny how the world works out."

"I knew it," said Scott. "You son-of-a-bitch."

"For doing what you couldn't do? Never mind, wouldn't do. I'm the jerk...I loved her. I gave her what she craved. I didn't treat her wrong. I cared for her. And she was a good woman. She couldn't hurt you. She didn't want to, but she knew something had to happen...I was there for her, and she knew it. She wanted it, but you stood in the way of what she wanted. Her commitment to you, clouded her decision making...I was going to make it easy...I took all the steps...All she had to do was just wait it out...And then you went and screwed it up."

"Screwing people's plans is like my super power. I'm beginning to realize this."

"Keep joking Scott. I've got your kryptonite...You're about to find out real quick."

"What are you going to do? Kill me, Trevor? Why help me out, just to turn around and kill me?"

"I wasn't helping you, you idiot...I was helping Sarah...She's all I got. The love of my life is gone, and all that is left of her, is your daughter...She looks so much like her. I see her mom in her so much. Especially the way she worries. That face she makes is the same one Mary use to make. I really don't understand my feelings toward Sarah. It confuses me."

"You mother...," Scott couldn't finish his sentence through the struggle of trying to break free from the chair.

"I was contacted first about this Safe Haven lottery. I knew I could never get you alone, and being locked in this hotel, together, was the only way I was going to get my revenge on her. Mary let me place that box behind your chair. I told her she had nothing to worry about. I told her, 'Just go about your day.' You always sat in that chair...It was supposed to go off like clockwork...The spikes would take you away and I could live my life the way I wanted...But, no. You had to get up. You had to be away from the chair when it went off...I was so excited the day after...I was outside your house the next morning...I can't explain the feelings I had when I saw you come out and place the body removal sign by the side of the road...I almost went ahead and finished it there."

"Wait, you thought the hotel was an opportunity to kill me?"

"That's how it was sold to me...I knew you needed a place, and I figured it would work out beautifully. Little did I know that I was being played the whole time."
