He says I'm useless and pathetic. He called me stupid and overly optimistic. I'll show him! I'll get a boyfriend twice the man he is! That sack of shit wouldn't know a good relationship if it sat on his god damn face! I got straight fucking A's in school so how dare he call me stupid. Ugh I was wrong to think he was such a good boyfriend. He never treated me right. This is for the best. I lied to myself in my head.
I stomped into my house and dropped my purse on the floor. The lights were all out and silence filled the air. It was never quiet when I came home. Usually my roommate had her crazy friends over. She hung out with these guys in some band called Emblem3. They were on Xfactor and toured and junk, but they all seemed pretty chill. They were just obnoxious.
"Hey how's Dick?" Shayla asked coming into the room.
"His name was Dylan and he dumped me." I said tears forming in my eyes.
"Well see he was more of a Dick than a Dylan anyway." She laughed. "Honey it's going to be fine. You're so pretty and funny. It's his loss." She hugged me.
"I really thought I loved him though!" I sobbed as the tears spilled over. I hate crying, especially in front of other people. Even Shayla who I've known for like six years can probably count the number of times she's seen me cry on her fingers.
"You need to get over him Brianna. He's not worth the tears or the time you spent on him. Yeah I know you think you loved him, but someone else is going to show you you're wrong. You didn't love Dylan." She patted my back as she spoke her famous words of wisdom. "I know it hurts now Bri, but you know what you're going to do? You're going to hold your head up and not blink an eye. He's going to see you and regret it. Then it's going to hurt him to know you never really needed him in your life. You're going to prove his biggest mistake was letting you go."
By the time she finished I almost believed her. I sniffed one last time and pulled back to see her face . She looked sincere in every word she'd just spoke. "Thanks Shayla." I smiled. Then I remembered something. "Shit! You almost had me convinced, but I remembered I'll see him Saturday. We bought tickets to the basketball game. I have two and so does he dammit. I didn't want to miss it and I'm sure as hell not going alone to see him with his new girlfriend." I was near tears again. "The new girl he's going to hug tighter. The ones who's hand he's going to squeeze every time the Lakers make a shot. He's going to kiss her and stuff in front of me just to make it hurt. I can't go through that." I was crying again for sure now.
"Brianna I'd go but I know that's not what you mean. Who were the other two tickets for anyway?" She asked trying to change the subject.
"His friends, but I have two and I'm not sharing with him. They're mine now." I sniffed trying to hold the tears back.
"It's really going to be okay." She sighed.
"It's not okay. It's never going to be okay again. I'm going to eat ice cream and get fat. Then I'll never get another boyfriend!" I know I'm being over dramatic, but come on if you've been dumped you know this is how it feels.
Shayla got a devious look on her face. It was kinda scary. "What if you had a guy go with you to the game?"
"That would be great if I had a boy to take." I sighed thinking how great it'd be to shove it in Dylan's face I had a new guy that was better than him.
"I know someone who'd go." She smiled.
"Who?" I asked cautiously.
"Wesley would go with you. The Lakers are playing the Heat right?" She asked and I nodded. "He has a Heat jersey with his name on it and everything. I'm sure he'd love to go."
"Wesley's like famous and he barely even likes me. Plus what about Carly or whatever her name is?" I asked.
"Well Carly went away to college and dumped him for a football player at her school. They stayed friends though I guess, and Wesley barely likes you because he barely knows you, and so what he's famous? Just ask him." She said.
"Fine." I mumbled. "Only because he's cute and I want to rub it in Dylan's face." I sighed.
I pulled out my phone and scrolled to his name. I had his number but I'd never texted or called him. I pressed the green button on my phone and listened to it ring three times before he answered.
"Hel-lo?" He sang in a happy voice.
"Hi it's Shayla's friend Brianna. I uh, I was wondering if you would, or if you were free, this Saturday?" I stammered out.
"Saturday?" He repeated to himself thinking. "I think I'm clear. What'd you have in mind?" He asked.
"I um, have two tickets to the Heat vs. Lakers game." I said.
"Sure I'd love to go. Are the seats court side?" He asked.
"No but pretty damn close." I laughed. "Tip offs at seven so we could go around five-ish so we have time for traffic."
"How about three thirty and I'll buy you a late lunch?" He wagered.
"Sounds good." I smiled at his kind gesture. "See you Saturday."
"See ya then." He said and he hung up.
Shayla was looking at me smiling. "What?" I asked looking at her.
"Nothing, but you should probably tell him the situation so if you run into Dylan it's not weird. Knowing Wes he'd probably even play along." She pointed out.
"Thank you Shayla for this!" I hugged her again.
"Thank Wes not me." She laughed.
