I sulked around as I got ready to go to this stupid reunion. I was dressed in a lacy beige color dress and tan wedges. My hair was curly and I had make up on. Wes was wearing kaki shorts and a white button down. I sat down next to him on the couch in the family room and sighed loudly.
"What's wrong Bri?" My ten year old brother Matt asked skipping into the room.
"Nothing buddy, I'm just not in the mood to go to this dinner." I said.
"Are you moving back home?" He asked.
"No I just came to visit." I shook my head.
"Oh, I miss you." He sighed.
I ruffled his hair and hugged him. "I miss you too, but I live in California now. Maybe when you get a little older you can come visit me."
"Yay!" He said happily. "Do you live with him?" He asked pointing at Wes next to me.
"She's going to." Wes nodded. "You can still come see us though."
"It'll be so much fun!" Matt yelled. "I always wanted a big brother."
"We have a big brother." I laughed.
"Alex don't count because he never does nothing with me." Matt complained.
"Doesn't count, and do anything." I corrected his grammar. "Alex is still our brother no matter what though."
"Brianna!" Shayla called walking into the room in a black dress that looked really nice on her. She never dresses up so when she does it looks amazing. "We're ready when you are."
I looked at Wes and sighed again. "Lets get this over with." I ruffled Matt's hair again and we were on our way. We drove separate cars in case I decided to leave.
The school was only ten minutes from my house. It wasn't a big school or anything. It was about average I guess. The dinner was in the gym so we parked and I held Wes's hand as I drug my feet behind Shayla toward the door.
Wes pulled me to a stop as we got close to the building. "Babe, calm down. It's not going to be that bad, and if it is we'll leave okay?" He said smoothing back my curls.
"Okay." I nodded. "Thank you for doing this."
"I'd do anything for you Brianna." He said.
I pecked his lips and tugged him inside the building. The school smelled the same as always. Like weed, body oder, and glue. There were probably like a hundred people from my graduating class here, most of which I can't stand and the others couldn't stand me. We walked around and I actually talked to a few people I didn't hate. After awhile we sat down at a table and Wes went to the bathroom leaving me on my own.
"Hey, I didn't think you'd even show up." I knew that voice anywhere. I snapped my head around and Connor was looking right at me smiling. "You look great Brianna."
"Please get away from me." I said in a calm tone.
"Brianna, were adults now. I've changed a lot since high school." He laughed.
"Well I haven't so please go away Connor!" I snapped at him.
"Hey babe, is everything okay?" Wes asked coming bak to me.
"Yeah, this is Connor Prescott." I introduced him hoping he's remember what Shayla had told him about Connor. Dating him was the worst part of my life basically. He left me so screwed up.
"Nice to meet ya man." Connor stuck his hand out.
Wes kindly shook his hand then looked at me. "Your mom called me and said she needs us to come back, something about Matt." He lied smoothly.
"Okay, bye Connor. If you see Shayla tell her we left." I smiled standing and letting Wes lead me out of the gym into the hall.
"Is that the Connor who?" He stopped.
"Yes, and thanks for lying to get me outta there." I laughed.
"Like I said, anything for you." He pulled me to a stop in the hall. "I love you."
"I love you too." I said. "Lets go, I'll take you to the best place in this town."
I lead him back to my car and drove o the outskirts of own and parked in the old field behind the rundown gas station that was no longer in business. The sun had set and it was dark now so I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight so we wouldn't trip and die.
"Come on Wes keep up!" I called laughing as he ducked around branches as he followed me up the overgrown path.
"Are you sure you know where you're going?" He asked for the sixth time.
"Yes, we're almost there." I said. I shoved the last branch out of my way and there was the clearing I was seeking. It was exactly the same. The gras was a little over grown but not too much. You could see the sky perfectly and the moon and stars were shining bright tonight. Plus you could see the lights from my small hometown below us making it almost look like a city. "What do you think?" I asked turning to face Wes.
"I think it's beautiful." He said looking up. "The stars are so big here!"
"Yeah since the city's so far down there the lights don't effect the lighting." I said laying down in the grass. "Come lay with me." I patted the ground.
Wes came and laid down next to me letting me cuddle into his chest. "Did you come here a lot?"
"I came here all the time. It's where I came to get away." I said.
"We should tell everyone about us tomorrow." He said randomly.
"Why tomorrow?" I asked.
"Because I can't imagine another day with everyone not knowing you're all mine." He said simply. It made my heart melt and in that moment I knew I hadn't made a mistake. I loved him more than anything.
"We'll tell everyone tomorrow then. " I smiled.
