A week went by. I had just finished eating lunch with Haydn, and was now wandering the house, trying to find something to do.

It didn’t occur to me until after a few minutes of wandering that I had finished the book I had been reading.

I could go to the library and find a new one. And so, I went back to my room to grab the book so that I could put it back before heading to the library.

The library was the only thing on the fourth floor of the house. It was huge, to put it lightly, and had multiple areas amongst all the bookshelves that had couches or desks for people to sit and work or read at.

The first thing I did was put the book back on the shelf I had found it. It took a while to find it since it had been a few weeks since I had been in here, but I was able to eventually.

As I was perusing through the shelves, I noticed that I wasn’t the only one in here.

There was a set up of four couches across from the shelf I was currently looking through. Viktor was sitting on one, Gillen on the other, both reading silently.

At first, I wasn’t going to disturb them. I found a book that looked good on the shelf I was looking at, and turned to leave, but Viktor’s voice stopped me.

“You can come and sit with us if you would like.”

They had both looked up from their books, and were waiting for my reply. I smiled and walked over to them, sitting on one of the empty couches.

I had talked to them both the last time I had came up to the library, so it would be good to catch up with them again. Even though they were both always at dinner, they hardly ever talked during it.

“How have you both been?” I asked.

“Fine,” Viktor replied. “Busy as usual. I’ve been having Luciano give me more jobs to do to keep myself busy.”

“Are they going well?” I was curious, but kept in mind I probably didn’t want to know the details.

“Yes,” he nodded.

“That’s good. What about you, Gillen? How have you been?”

“I haven’t gone on a job in a while, so that’s nice…” he mused, still not used to talking to me yet.

I remembered him telling me last time that he wasn’t fond of the types of jobs Luciano would give them, and that he hardly ever would go on them because of that. But sometimes, he would still end up needing to if they needed another person to help.

“I’ve just been up here reading mostly…” he finished.

“I know you’re shy, but why don’t you ever come and do things with us?” I asked. “I mean, you’re always welcome to hang out with me if you’d like.”

He glanced away, but I caught the small smile on his face. “I wouldn’t want to bother you.”

“It wouldn’t be a bother at all,” I smiled back. “We’re friends after all.”

“Friends…?” he muttered, glancing up at me with hope in his eyes.

“Of course!” I grinned.

“That….that makes me happy….” he smiled down at his book.

Even Viktor was smiling, most likely glad that his friend now had another.

I spent the rest of my time in the library, silently reading with the two boys. It was nice. Little words needed to actually be spoken between us for us to have a good time together.

It wasn’t until Oliver came up to tell us all dinner was ready that we left.

“I’ll come back tomorrow after lunch,” I decided. “That way you’ll have someone to talk to if you want. It’s not like I really have any plans so I can do that for a bit each day if you want.”

“You don’t have to…” Gillen muttered.

“You can if you would like,” Viktor said at the same time.

Gillen glanced up at Viktor, a timid look on his face. He nodded in response, encouraging Gillen to say whatever he wanted to say.

“I….I would like it if you came…” he admitted to me.

“Then I will,” I smiled in response.

Dinner went by without anything eventful happening. Kuro and Zao had made it today. Everyone talked about what we had done today, along with random things.

Once we were all finished eating, everyone took turns rinsing off their plates and then putting them in the dishwasher.

I had dishes duty tonight, so I waited for everyone to put their stuff in before running it. Once I was done in the bath, I would come back down to unload it.

“Things have certainly been eventful around here,” I text as I waited for my bath bomb to dissolve. “I accidently got high last week. It’s kind of a long story.

I had gone out to watch the sunset, but Zao and Kuro were already out there, so I joined them. Zao was smoking opium from his pipe. I had no idea you could even still get straight opium, did you?

I sat there amongst the smoke and hadn’t even realized what would happen. Zao had to carry me up to bed because I was so dizzy lol. But then he decided he needed a nap, so he fell asleep on my bed....

He’s kept trying to sneak into my bed after that. I haven’t let him get away with him since then, though, but he’s persistent.”

I didn’t get a text back as quickly as I usually did. It wasn’t until I was drying off that my phone screen lit up to let me know he had responded.

The message made my stomach fill with dread….and guilt.

“How could you possibly be so fucking friendly with them after everything that’s happened?! Don’t you care about what they’ve done?!”
