I talked to Thomas for a solid hour last night, about everything. I learned about his likes and dislikes, and he learned about mine. We agreed on the important things, and argued about everything else.

At this point I was determined to keep this date a secret, from my parents, from the kids at school, from the girls paying me. I didn’t need their prying questions on Monday; or constant texts on Saturday night. I was going to enjoy this date, even though I know I shouldn’t.

I just had to calm myself down until the down set date arrives.

“So how is it going?” Clarissa asked me in science class.

“Pretty good actually, the sun’s shining, I can’t complain.” I gestured towards the window. “I hope the ice thaws when I walk home though.”

“Shut up Scarlett, you know what I mean.” Clarissa lightly shoved me.

“Things are going fine, in all seriousness. We talk a lot and junk.” I shrugged. “I think it’s going to work out.”

“Good,” she smiled at me. I could honestly see us being friends, that is, if I could ever get myself to trust anyone but myself.

“I’ll update you if anything happens,” I lied to her. I may tell her about the date on Monday, we would have to see how it plays out.

“Be careful Scarlett,” she looked at me and smiled.

“I will,” I replied and went back to listening to the teacher.

What did she mean by ‘be careful’? Does she know something I don’t? I mean I understand that he is a player and everything, but it’s nothing I couldn’t handle. Maybe she could sense that some of my feelings run deeper with him then I’ve lead on. But I knew I could quickly demolish those feelings, I just hadn’t figured out a way to. I mean it’s kind of hard to just suddenly stop liking a guy, especially when you share the same taste in music, books and movies. It was all very troublesome; I really regretted talking to him for so long last night.

Math class had to be my favorite time of the day at this point. I always looked forward to talking to Thomas, or even seeing him. No matter what he did or said in those 75 minutes, it was the highlight of my day.

“Tell me something about yourself that would make me hate you,” I said when I first saw him.

“That’s impossible,” he smiled at me, sitting down beside me.

“Come on, there has to be one thing that would make me absolutely despise you.”

“No, there is. A very long list of things.” Thomas clarified. “But I’m not telling you anything because it’s inconceivable for you to hate me. I wouldn’t be able to deal with the thought of you disliking me.”

“Oh,” was all I said.

“Why would you want me to hate you?” He squinted at me.

“No reason, I just like to know some of people’s deepest and darkest secrets.” I said, well at least it was the half-truth.

“I just met you,”

“It’s never too early to learn about people,” I countered.

“Yeah but it does take a while to trust people in order to confess your secrets to them.”

“Point taken,”

“Let’s continue with our work, shall we?”

“We shall,”

“Shit man,” I said walking to the front doors of the school; it was a literal blizzard outside. I couldn’t walk in this unless I wanted to die. I looked around for anyone I even considered my acquaintance, no luck. I tried to find someone that I was making a deal with, but all I saw were faces I didn’t know. I thought about taking the bus, but I knew it wouldn’t me drop off anywhere near my house. I sighed and pulled my hood over my head.

“Wait, Scar!” I heard a voice ring out; I turned around and noticed Thomas running up to me.

“Hey Thomas,” I smiled at him sadly.

“You can’t walk in this.” He pointed out.

“I know,” I agreed. “But both my parents are working, and none of my friends are here…” I lied about the “friends” part, seeing that I technically don’t have friends.

“Can I offer you a ride?” Thomas asked, readjusting his backpack.

“Um…” I thought about it. I really didn’t want to seem like I needed his help, I looked at his shy, smiling face and then looked outside. I decided that my own personal wishes needed to be met.

“That would be awesome,” I finally said.

“Awesome, let’s go then.” He held the school door open for me.
